ummm ok so listen tell me if any of these are pathetic. im in DESPERATE need. i must finish this soon.
Work of art: for andy warhol, Did you create the self portrait based on how you see yourself or how you want the world to see you, and what influenced you to create it the way you did
world record: donated most money to an eating disorder fund because a few of my friends have had eating disorders and its affected me personally…? or is that lame
new law: lessen the work burdern placed on immigrants… bc a lot of immigrants are taken advantage of, like they have to work extra hours and at a lower pay
question: Many writers have forseen the future as a utopian rebirth or ultimate destruction of mankind. Do you agree with either or neither predicition and why or why not?
PLEASE HELP!! any suggestions… esp about the world records and new law…or you can im me at stencil712

Work of Art: If you really want to know the answer to that question, then pick it. But I bet it's been answered already in tons of interviews etc with Andy Warhol. (I wouldn't know for sure, that's a guess. Pop art is not my thing. ;) ) If that is a real person you are DYING to ask a question and that IS what you'd ask him, use it. Otherwise, get a person you would ADORE a convo with and ask them a question. For example, to the architect of the Leaning Tower of Pisa: "Is it better leaning or not?"

World Record: I think that's an AWESOME thing to do, but I would tweak it a bit to say, "RAISED most money to provide help hotlines and counseling for people with eating disorders." It's more specific.

New Law: I can't comment on that as an immigration conservative. Many of the immigrants being taken advantage of are illegal immigrants, and illegal immigrants shouldn't be in the U.S. anyway. Besides, as a teen, I am paid less than an adult would be for the same job and I wouldn't call that wrong -- I'm new at this whole "job" thing, whereas an adult (should) be better at it. Also, when immigrants are being taken advantage of, that advantage is often illegal, so a new law isn't going to do anything to stop people who are already breaking the law from breaking the law. So either tweak your answer to plug these loopholes, or pick something else that you wish would happen.

Question: That is an AWESOME question. I'd only change the rewording of the last sentence to: "Do you agree with either, both, or neither prediction and why do you feel that way?" It's cleaner.

wowwwww thank you SOSO MUCH!!! ok wait so did you actually use the one for the leaning tower... haha just wondering. and i was thinking about the law... and i want to say that any human because honestly i dont think its fair even if they are illegal.. or do you suggest anything else? THANKS SO SO SO MUCH!!!

No, I did not use the leaning tower question. It was a random thought. :)

Okay. You believe that it is wrong to mistreat people on their jobs whether they are illegal or not. I agree. Now you need to find the barrier that is stopping them from being treated humanely. If there is no law saying that employers should not abuse their employees, then you have the answer to your "Law Question". But I am certain there are at least SOME (I bet there are actually a good many) laws on the books that prohibit employers from mistreating employees. So what you are looking for is a law that has not been passed that needs to be passed.

Without doing a bunch of research into labor law, I can think of some simple laws to enact that would be along the lines of what you're looking for. 1. Raise the minimum wage. 2. Enact a national Right-To Work law. (Those laws prohibit unions from forcing employees of a company to pay union dues or join the union if they do not wish to.) 3. Upgrade the government's "Welfare-to-work" programs so they actually DO get people from welfare to work more efficiently. 4. Give more funding to the Small Business Association for training programs and microgrants or microloans to help poor or lower-income families fund their OWN businesses.

If you don't like any of these, you should pick (like I said) a law to enact that has not yet been enacted that will solve a problem. Or you may want to REPEAL a law that has CREATED problems.

Hope that helped some instead of confusing you. ;)

The work of art does not seem genuine. The record is good. I have to say that i don't like the law. The FIRST law you would pass before anything else is to lower the work burden on immigrants? First of all, thats like ignoring your country and then its advocating some socialist doctrine there. I think you're trying to be too original there. And, as destiny said, the last question is very good. I wouldn't mind having that one in place of the essays this year.

ok that is awesome thank you SO much seriously. you are a huge help. so for the art question.... im thinking maybe change the andy warhol question to be something about how his collection of self portraits was influenced by his moods and emotions at the time? or is that to commonplace...... i feel like that question is boring. and then i was thinking about your leaning tower of piza one.. and if you dont want me to use it, i totally wont!! but it gave me an idea.. to ask the architect that if he could change anything aboutthe way he created the leaning tower of piza, would he have made is so that it is not leaning....?

bigjake, i know thats exactly what i want to do is lower the work burden... but is there any way to make that into a law?? thats what i feel is unclear.

bigjake, i know thats exactly what i want to do is lower the work burden... but is there any way to make that into a law?? thats what i feel is unclear.

why is helping immigrants of such primary concern to you that you would neglect the other citizens of your country and pass your first law to help immigrants?

Yes...there is a law to lower the work burden...its called communism...

Hah, it looks like you're being attacked by conservatives on that immigration issue. ;) My suggestions here remain the same. You need to narrow it down to a specific problem that can be fixed by law, and if you can't think of one, pick a different topic. And there's nothing wrong with Ariella picking immigration labor market-- it's a great topic, something that could use some fixing.

You're welcome to use my Pisa question -- I'm not going to. But I really suggest you pick something that is YOU. If Andy Warhol is YOU, then ask that question! Just think, "If I had Andy Warhol sitting down for coffee with me, what is the one thing I would love to know that only he can answer?"

Hey you two, I'm also applying to NU (rhymes, awesome). So my new law is this: It is illegal to form a military and weapons aren't allowed.

I put this b/c then other countries have no reason to attack you in the first place because you don't have a military. If you do get attacked, then it wasn't you provoking violence so the rest of the world would be on your side.

thats a great law that i wish could be enacted... but honestly, i dont want to be the devils advocate or a b**ch, but i feel like its really unrealistic, i mean we all wish there was no violence right? world peace ha. but all in all i have NO idea what they are looking for and i hate the question anyways, so my advice is if you can support it in the (50 words ah!) then go for it, if not, pick something else. hope i helped. p.s. are you applying to cornell too? i really need to talk with somebody about the supplement, but nobody seems to like me on this site

oh thank god somebody will maybe talk to be about cornell. everyone on the cornell forum is ummm non responsive. anyways for the supplement second part, where how will you with utlilize this for you intended major blah blah ok so i wrote my first interest about science and math bc thats what im really into, and for the second part ALL i have is saying that they have good research, and i need something decent! do you know of ANY good programs/classes/ anythigna bout cornell that makes it stand out? ive looked over the website and i cant find anythign but i know it exists, i know it has a great sci.math department.. but i cant bull***** that in 250 words... helppppp please

I just skipped out on the controvery for the law one and put something that I hope we can all agree on. I said that if I have the ability to enact any law I wish, obviously my office, and perhaps the government at large, wield too much power, creating an environment conducive to corruption. As a reformer, the first thing I would do would be to take steps to institute a system of checks and balances so that no one government branch, body, institution, or individual would hold a disproportionate amount of power.
