Anyone applying to Richmond RD?

i go to seattle prep...but i do live in bellevue

This forum isn't getting much action lately. Is Richmond anyone here's first choice? It's mine first choice, I went around and around, visited up and down the east coast and came back full circle to Richmond.

Farb- you have really good stats, where else are you applying?

well technically speaking its my first choice, i applied to duke and wake forest which i like more than richmond, but richmond is my logcial first choice :)

Why do you say Richmond is your logical first choice? I think Wake Forest is easier to get into than Richmond, and they are very similiar schools (except for the sports, Wake is better.) North Carolina is a little too far south for me. If you like it better, why not go there? You have the stats for Duke too, but the number of applicants has sky rocketed this year. And, if your a guy that always helps your chances of admission. Did you get accepted EA anywhere yet?

no, i mean i really like richmond, my stats arent good enough for duke. wake forest is only slightly harder to get into like you said, but my app was terrible! i accodnetally sent it without profreading it (ouch) i mean its so bad i misspelled my last namer LOL STUPID. but i love richmond

Richmond is my first choice, but I can't go unless I get money.

I know Richmond is very generous with aid. jammin - I hope you get what you need, especially after the $8,000 increase in tuition this year!

Farbdogg, yea, I did a really, really stupid thing on one of my applications, I had to call the admissions officer and grovel for mercy. Lots of people make stupid mistakes, but I believe things happen for a reason, you never know!

yeah thanks, my duke essay was absolutely perfect and so was my richmond cuz they are my first choice schools. except the essay for richmond was quite difficult, i ended up writing about clapping at the movies

Hi ~ I haven't posted to this discussion prior. I have a son applying to Richmond from NY. It is the only school we haven't visited. We were in a blinding rain storm on our way to Wake Forest last spring and couldn't stop. We hope to possibly have the opportunity if he is accepted. He is interested in Internalional Studies and Leadership. I have heard nothing but good things about the school. He applied RD and also for the Scholars Program. Are there many NY ers there? We are not from NYC but upstate. Best of luck to all of you! JM

Hi, I'm from NJ. I'm interested in International Studies too, as well as the Leadership Program. I think we were stuck in the same blinding rain storm last spring. I visited again this fall and I fell in love with the school. The school is really beautiful the campus is perfectly groomed, everything about it is great. The dorms are huge, and upperclass get apartments right on campus. I had an overnight visit and had the most amazing time. Everyone was really nice, also very driven and smart. The professors were interesting and I love the small class size, most classes have less than 10 people! There are a large number of students from NY and NJ. There was a chart, I think about 350 from NJ and 318 from NJ. I applied EDII, but haven't seen any posts from accepted EDI students, so I'm wondering about my chances. Good luck to your son too, if you don't mind, what were his stats?

I had a 1320 SAT
780 SATII writing 600 math
29 ACT
varsity sports 4 years
NHS, SpanishNHS
lots of clubs and community service

Hi Tribegirl09~After a lot of thought he didn't apply to Wake Forest. He didn't think the International Studies department was strong enough. He is applying to several schools in the DC / Richmond area and by our prior posts you will see to a service academy. Additionally one school in the south and one closer to home. His stats are 1550 / 35 SAT's and ACT's, NHS, Model UN, Mock Trial, Drama Club, Fencing but not a varsity sport. He's pretty well rounded. He is not interested in a party school or frat life and that was one reason WF didn't appeal to him. When we were there the frat parties were starting at 3 in the afternoon on campus! Since almost all the schools he has applied to have an April 1 decision time it's tough to wait when all your friends are hearing from state schools or applied ED. Some say to us don't worry because he's such a strong student but anyone that knows anything about college admissions knows there are no sure things. Many with perfect SAT's are turned down. Schools want a diverse student body as they should.

I am really glad to hear the Richmond is so nice and I hope that we have the opportunity (and reason) to visit. It is a little difficult to get there from here and in some cases we have to fly to Atlanta to get to Richmond which is another reason we haven't gone yet. I heard from others it is the most beautiful campus. Those things are important to "parents" :-)

Best of luck to you. I wonder if admissions will fall with the price increase? One of my son's friends applied but may not attend if accepted due to cost...too bad...

We did get a letter from Richmond asking if he wanted to audition for the music department...he plays an instrument but isn't interested in anything more than maybe a pep band so isn't planning on doing so.

Thanks~JM

I got that letter from the music dept too. I sent back the card asking for the CD and information on voice lessons and how students can go about practicing an instrument by themselves.

I applied RD and University scholars
quick stats...
1500
690 writing and 690 IIC
40/476 (top 10%)
excellent flute player (regional honors etc. and submitted a CD with app)
many hours (200) of community service from different organizations
National Merit Semifinalist
9 AP classes by graduation (Eng lang and lit, spanish, govt, econ, bio, calc bc, us hist, stat) made 4s on English lang, stat, and us hist

I have visited the school twice and I think it is absolutely beautiful and has a great feeling about it. I'm slightly apprehensive about the lack of diversity and the social life (centered around the frats). I would probably major in biology with a concentration in neuroscience.

I got the music dept. letter too but I don't want to be a music major so I didn't request an audition or anything. I just hope they don't throw my CD away!
