anyone applying to the VCU guaranteed admission program?

Keep in mind that students can apply to the guaranteed admissions program later on at VCU, I believe from what I saw, in your sophomore year. You will then have professor rec's from VCU faculty, which can only help.

i got an interview and im out of state and my SAT is only 2130
wats the deal u guys seem very qualified?? This is weird...good luck to everyone who got interviews hope to see you at VCU!!

and good luck to those who didnt get in but form what i see u guys dont seem liek you need..already mad beast...

hmmm....What were your other stats igotzconnections?

Like, volunteer hours, ec's and stuff? Just curious

uhh my school doesnt have gpa i have qpa whihc is out of 100...i have a 95.7
all my volunteer hours are medically related and they count up to about 300 to 350
ecs is jus some leadership stuff, dif school clubs but theyre all medical haha...my school is called the academy for allied health sciences so that miteve helped...and i got a rec from a nurse that teaches at my school now so that prolly helped...

SAT IIs were 780 math II, 750 Bio, 690 USH and Physics and 670 Chem...

im glad i got it but i dont understand why becase every1 here seems so much qualified and in state..im from NJ....but the ony thing i could think of that wouldve made ny difference would be the essay but there really werent ny...so i dunno

Connections, don't sell yourself short, you definitely sound qualified enough to me.

I'm just really puzzled only because I got interviews to UMKC and Miami (which I believe are more selective) with the EXACT SAME essay and EXACT SAME recs....don't know what to think or say really.

^ thank you! =]

miami is really good, the app intimidated me...its jus u have to take mcats for miami thas y i don think its as popular as some others...vcu is just really on the down low not many know about it...

"To be promoted to the School of Medicine after three calendar years of undergraduate work, the student must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.7, a science GPA of at least 3.7, and an MCAT composite score of at least 28.

To be promoted to the School of Medicine after four calendar years of undergraduate work, the student must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, a science GPA of at least 3.5, and an MCAT composite score of at least 26. Students must continue acquiring socialization experiences during each semester of the fourth year."

Considering the national average is 24, those MCAT requirements don't seem too bad...but I understand, why would you want to study for it? And of course, the GPA requirements aren't too attractive either.

ya its a good program and miami is a fun city...i jus think MCAT scares alot of ppl away from medical school, its tough ya but its more than jus takin the test...if u wanna do it u will no test will stop u....

U got an interview for miami?...traveling is gonna tuff for alot of us i think

Haha yeah, travel costs are pretty exorbitant nowadays.

Don't want this to go off topic and become a miami thread....

Anybody else with stats on rejections/acceptances to VCU?

My stats were: (rejected)
2200 Sat
34 ACT
600 hours medical exp
few leadership
good recs

I dunno what to say....I only got an interview from union, hopefully I get 1 from UMKC soon

hey, got an interview

stats:

2050 SAT
515 volunteer hours
including one hundred at surgery
president of a bunch of clubs at schools
and five ap courses my senior year
in state as well

Hmm
so only 200 people applied and there are 60 interview candidates.
Last year the program admitted 50ish people.
I guess this means we're pretty much in.
Just wondering, when are you guys coming for the interview?

40 got offers--not 50. But that is still pretty great!

ya did ny1 hear back from the person yet?
i still havent received back my date...

Hey guys, interviews for the program start next week. Good luck everyone! :)

hey guys wat r ur dates for interview? mine is Feb 6, it says five people will be there...i hope i get to c some of you

mine is Feb 20.

how did vcu's program become this competitive? because i remember that when I applied 3 years ago (or 2?) i got in with 2000 SAT and some volunteering and some leadership stuff (no president of any club-)... may be because lot many people applied... d y'all know how many?

i know... i agree too. i think this program has become competitive. because I applied in 2006 and i got into this program with 2100 SAT, 3.98/4 and somw xtra activities. i dont really like the adviser as she is really nosy, but i guess its a good program and she has good intentions.
Just for the idea- what are the stats of the ppl who were accepted/rejected...?

2270 SAT
3.85 UW GPA
500 hours of health-care experience
leadership positions
in-state

rejected
