A friend of mine applied for a parent plus loan and was approved even though her bankruptcy was less than 5 years ago. Has anyone been approved with a bankrupcty less than 5 years old? I'm starting to get nervous. My D graduates in May and will be a freshman in the fall. I'm afraid I won't be approved because of a prior bankruptcy. Other than the discharged bankruptcy 4 years ago, my credit is great. Please help? Anyone!

I can’t speak to rating required for PLUS, but if parents are denied that allows student to take a larger Stafford loan. ( It seems that the financial history required goes back five years)

I have seen plenty of PLUS loans approved for parents who are in active bankruptcy.

kelsmom: That’s good to hear. I know everyone’s situation is different, but this gives me a little hope. Thanks.

Update: I was denied for the parent plus loan because my bankruptcy had not been longer than 5 years.
