anyone asked for an interview?

I was just contacted yesterday! This person studied economics and math... any tips for the interview?

(I thought Vassar was mostly artsy creative writing people)

Mine was EXTREMELY relaxed! My interviewer was a Biopsychology major who later studied at Yale, then the UVA med school. She was awesome. We talked about me for a little while, then I found out we had the same taste in music. It was really relaxed, at least for me. I brought my resume and some copies of the school newspaper that I layed out. I'm sure you'll do great! Where are you meeting?

Does everyone get asked or just the ones they are interested in?

priti,
on your application, there was a check box to see if you would like an interview or not with an alumnus or alumnae. if you did check the box, then i'm not quite sure what to tell you since i'm in the same "newbie" boat as you are to this whole process. :-)

but yeah, my interview was AWESOME. it was extremely relaxed and i was talking for like an hour to this woman who graduated in the last all women's class at vassar. we talked about different cultures, study abroad, boyfriends, everything and it was wonderful to see how there was a person who was very different from myself be just as passionate in world affairs and what not. if you have my luck and jasonm's luck, you'll probably end up with a pretty mad cool person lol.

Don't worry about interviews so much. I didn't even request one and I got in even being below Vassar standards.

My daughter requested an interview, and even met and spoke with the local alum interviewer at a college fair a few months ago. The woman indicated that she'd be calling at some point to set up an interview, but hasn't so far. Don't know what this could mean, if anything. D has a 35 ACT, 2290 SAT, all A's, and good ECs. It's hard to imagine Vassar's not at least a little bit interested in her.

I seriously doubt that's the case, Hindoo. I had to call Vassar about my interview and then they set it up. Who knows if I would have gotten one if I didn't call? But I still got in.

I was called today to set up an interview (I'm excited--I think that is a good thing?). The alumna said that Vassar is trying to have all of the interviews done by the end of the month, so if anyone is planning on calling, keep that in mind :)

We're still waiting. It's encouraging, at least, to know they're still conducting interviews. My daughter e-mailed admissions this afternoon to inquire about this, and hopefully someone will get back to her soon.

After getting no response from her e-mail, my daughter finally called Vassar admissions yesterday to ask about an interview. She was told that many of the interviews were being done this month, and that she would get a call soon. Let's hope.

I didn't do an interview, but was never asked, however, I didn't request on my supplement either.

How important is the interview to the Vassar application? Does anyone have any statistics regarding accepted students and how many had an interview?

janette, just be natural and do some research on Vassar. I'm absolutely sure that you'll do fine. Try to avoid sounding overly sycophantic, but still demonstrate interest. By the way, in reference to your comment about Vassar being artsy, it is definitely art-oriented. Nevertheless, Vassar has strong academics and extracurriculars also. :-). My alumni interview went really well, and I'm sure that yours will too. Have fun and good luck!

Hindoo

My son has also requested an interview (checked the box on the CA Supp.) A good friend of mine told me he was on a list that got e-mailed out to the local interviewers. No one has contacted my son yet (my friend thought she knew us too well to do it--I agree), but I expect he'll hear from someone soon. He got his app in just before deadline, so he's in the last batch of interviews. Probably your daughter will be contacted soon too.

bethievt--Your note was comforting. ... My daughter applied RD back in October, so I still think she should have been contacted by now. But the person she talked to at Vassar last week told her not to worry.

I got contacted for my interview earlier this week, and it had this morning. It went really well! It's left on me a very positive impression of Vassar. I really hope I get in! For those of you who didn't get an interview just yet, I wouldn't panic, considering I just got contacted about it this week.

February 11. Still no call for an interview.

You know, I got the impression that interviews really don't count for much at all. My interviewer was basically like, "Do you have any questions to ask me?" and I said, "I thought that was your job." Just chill...I doubt it's really such an integral part of the admissions process.

Good advice, rockketsauce. My daughter is doing just that--chilling. I'm a mother however, and biologically programmed to worry.

My son, who was admitted ED2 last year, never had an interview, unless you consider the coach... We were under the impression the interview is not considered in the admissions process and that interviews are offered as a convenience to applicants who would like to ask questions of alumnae. I think there is information to this effect somewhere on the website, but I could be mistaken.

Edconsumer, That's encouraging!
