Anyone at Penn not get accepted into Wharton while pursing a dual degree (uncoordinated) with them?

I have a few questions for existing Penn students who applied to the Wharton School while in the College, SEAS, Nursing etc.and did not get accepted. (This is not for someone trying to transfer). I understand the first time a student can apply is the end of their sophomore year and one more time during their junior year. Students must take required Wharton classes and maintain a 3.4 GPA are the minimum qualifications before applying. I have the following questions for the folks who didn't get it:

Why don't you think you were accepted?

Since you took several Wharton classes that may no longer apply to your major, did you (or are you) pursing an Economics degree as a second degree?

Did you feel your dual degree adviser could have been more helpful?

I understand there are MANY who apply but few are chosen, do you agree?

If you didn't get in the first try did you try for the second go round?

My daughter is completing her freshman year and is very interested obtaining a dual degree from Wharton. Her adviser recommends it however, in order to make this all happen she must go to summer school either this summer or next and take a couple of classes. As any Penn student knows taking a summer off is well deserved (and needed). As her dad I'm trying to get a pulse on what we're up against with all this.

Any other comments that anybody would like to elaborate on would greatly be appreciated.

The first time a student is eligible to apply for internal transfer to or dual degrees with Wharton is at the end of FRESHMAN year (i.e., after two semesters), and then again in the middle of sophomore year (i.e., after three semesters), and then a third and final time at the end of sophomore year (i.e., after four semesters).

I recommend that you review these four web pages (and the pages linked therein) to perhaps answer some of your questions:

https://spike.wharton.upenn.edu/ugrprogram/advising/internaltransfer_dualdegree/index.cfm

Of course, if any current or recent students can answer some of your questions from personal experience, that would also be helpful.

Thanks 45Percenter, prior to writing my post I was able to locate 3 out of the 4 links you posted and as always you help out with a bit more information. Thanks

I’m hoping to hear from some students who have been through this process. The questions I asked are not likely to get answered by Penn. As a paying parent I’d like to obtain a bit more data on the chances one actually has getting into this program.

^ Of course. It used to be easier to predict when internal acceptance to Wharton was based purely on a GPA cutoff given the number of slots available for a particular semester (it used to be in the neighborhood of a 3.8, give or take a bit for any given semester). But, as they explain on one of the pages to which I linked, it’s now a more holistic process.

You might try calling the Wharton Undergraduate office and asking to speak to someone there about it, so that they can provide you with the numbers (acceptances/applications) for the last few semesters. It’s not something they should want to hide, it seems to me. If you don’t have any luck with that, I’d recommend contacting the folks in the Penn Parents office to see if they can get you the data (they’re supposed to be the liasons between parents and Penn):
