Mamagym- who did your daughter have in her 2nd interview? My daughter just had 1 Professor & 2 students in ea. interview. Did they ask any tough questions? One of the girls my daughter met had questions like " How would you make the world a better place?" My daughter basically only had personal questions asked in both interviews.

bballcourt - In the second interview it was a student who asked the "tough" questions. Generally, I think she could relate more to the people from her major because of the things they had in common, and that's why she felt better after the first interview.

Wow- I guess my daughter was lucky not to get any questions that made her nervous. I guess the 2nd one where they had her app w/them, the students were very interested in her job, working on a farm. So, that was easy for her to talk about. Good luck to everyone. Let's hope we don't have to wait too long to hear.

I asked my son's admissions counselor when we would hear back from the school. I was advised mid-March as they do not make any decisions until after the second weekend.

Thanks to all who have replied! Hope everyone will share their opinions after their own S or D's experiences next weekend. My D was glad to find out in advance that there are 2 interviews--I don't believe we were informed of this before. She's also hoping there won't be a long delay between the two meetings.

It's great to see all of these threads about HPU. Last year when my daughter was applying the only CC threads re: High point were those making fun of it for being a "country club" with poor academics. I think that the increased talk is an indicator of High point's climbing reputation.

My daughter is thriving at High point, both academically and socially. As many of you have pointed out, the president is a unique and dynamic individual who has put his heart and soul, (as well as a lot of his own money) into making this university grow. Just one example of his presence on campus and among his students: Early halloween morning my daughter was walking to class and talking to me on her cell when she said "oh wow, their handing out giant hershey bars"...the next thing I know Nido (the President) is talking to me on the phone saying "Hello Mom, hope you have a great day!" It was great, and made it just a little easier to make that next big monthly tuition payment. :)

Anyway, just wanted to put a plug in for HPU...and say best of luck to all of you scholarship hopefuls! My daughter will be at the one next week but on the other side of the interview table!

My son attended two weeks ago. Would love to hear from families who attended this weekend.

My daughter an I just returned from the second weekend. The only negative to the whole weekend was the weather. It rained both days! (That did not stop the ice cream truck
). Every family received two High Point umbrellas! This was our second visit to the campus and it was even nicer now than our visit last summer. It is really pretty at night! The new buildings are beautiful. The dinner was great and so was the entertainment. My daughter loved the piano juggler.

She had her interviews at 9:30 and 11:30. She thought they went well, the second one she thought went better. We talked to many people and were surprised that most of the kids had already decided that they would be attending next fall. This weekend I believe has also made this school my daughters first choice. She made sure she brought me to the admissions building to pay the deposit!

As far as who will be offered scholarships we heard many different comments from parents. One Dad heard from someone he knows who attends the school that everyone invited will get at least $5000. Other people said not everyone will get a scholarship. They did say they would be mailing out the letters on March 10th.

This University just seems to good to be true! I do not think you will find a more beautiful and clean campus anywhere. When you tell people about what they have and offer to their students(outdoor pools, free ice cream truck, hotel like dorms, steak house, free laundry, single rooms, double beds, movie theater, etc.) it sounds like a country club for rich spoiled kids. But after listening to the president explain why he does all this you have a whole different feeling. He feels that if people are generous to you and make you feel special, you will adopt that way of live. The kids at this school are not rich spoiled kids. Everyone we talked to had a smile on their face and seemed happy to have the opportunity to be there.
I think within 5 years this school will be every hard to get accepted to.

Any more input on the second weekend would be greatly appreciated.

My D attended this past weekend. Everything was wonderful, as bfraz stated, except the rain! We did meet many people who already know they are attending, some early decision and some early action. My D would love to attend, but we are waiting to weigh the financials at her two top choices. We will have 2 in college next year, and unfortunately, the field of education/teaching is no longer recession proof when your state chooses to fund it through sales tax revenues and no one is shopping! Her interviews were at 9:30 and 2:00, so she had a long wait. She was very positive about both of them--they asked alot of questions tied to her essays. We stayed for the President's reception and actually stayed 30 minutes late discussing my daughter's intended major with professors. We did not feel rushed in any way. Everyone was extremely nice and accomodating all weekend. I asked the housing director a question on Sat., and she e-mailed the link to me as promised early Sunday afternoon. They are #1 on the up and coming list for a reason--all you need to do is visit and you will know why!

I think we are all thinking twice about the school because of the money factor. The school is my son's first choice; but money is an issue.

Jtennis - my son also had the 2:00 PM time for the second interview. He wished his second interview was earlier as he had too much time to get nervous.

I also e-mailed the school for some additional information after our weekend earlier in the month, and I received an extremely prompt response also. Sometimes I wonder if I would have even heard back from a larger/less personal university.

Thanks everyone for their thoughts.

Another thing that worries me about HPU is that even if you do get some type of institutional grant the first year to go along with some merit money, there seems to be a great chance that you won't get it the next year. They don't hide the fact that they don't guarantee grants, as most schools don't, yet it seems to be more of an issue there. Someone on one previous post even mentioned whether they used a "bait and switch" to lure you in. Although scholarship money should be guaranteed if you continue to meet the requirements, could it be possible that they save the grant money for incoming freshman (or maybe even continuing athletes), and others are left holding the bag subsequent years, even if your family finances haven't changed? One of the FA's even told me this summer, when I questioned whether the statistic of them meeting an average of 50% need (which is low for a private) was accurate --she said "I'll be honest, it is more like 25%." And went on to tell me how their available money had not tripled as enrollment has. So the available money was being spread amongst many more students.
We do love this school (though we were shocked at some of the student responses on the rate my professor site for Pres. Qubein and his class--it was several, not just a few students who made the comments) and it is her first choice, so she will be watching the mail as they said the letters should go out March 10th with the Fin Awards coming out right after that if you have completed your FAFSA.

Has anyone else talked to the Financial Aid office at HPU?

Anyone else attend the scholarship weekend and have any input? Would love to hear more opinions!

My son received his High Point scholarship offer today in the mail. I won't ruin the surprise, but they do it in a very nice way.

I live in North Carolina; therefore, I probably received mine a day or two earlier than anyone from out-of-state.

Good Luck!

My daughter just received hers also! We live in Mass. She will be excited to see how they sent it!

Where is everyone? Has anyone else received their package? Did everyone that attended get a scholarship? My daughter received exactly what we thought she would according to the breakdown on the website. Does anyone know when the FA letters will arrive?

My D recv'd her pkg today as well. After reading what kids recv'd last year, she got about what we were expecting, but not what she qualified for if you went by her GPA, SAT's, class rank, etc... I'm surprised they make you have a decision by Apr 7th. She may not have even heard from Duke or Wake by then.

My D received her package today! She also got what she qualified for according to SAT/ACT. She has heard from a few people who did get less than what they were qualified for according to the average stats, so maybe the interviews did make a difference for some. The Pres. Scholarship includes $1,000 additional to put toward study abroad or study America. Does anyone know if this is going to be counted as part of your aid in the financial aid package even though it is not part of the COA and is optional? From what they said the FA letters would go out about a week after the scholarship notifications by admissions, so my guess is we should get them some time next week. D applied Early Action, not early decision. Has anyone who applied ED already received your FA letter or are you still waiting too?

Daughter got about what she expected. Even thought not one of the higher level awards, she was really pleased and can't wait till August! Curious to know how many of the top level scholars will actually accept their awards and attend. My guess is that they will be attending more competitive schools and High Point was their safety and only went to the scolarship weekend because the other schools had not yet released their admissions decisions.

Has anyone received their FA letters yet?
