Hi everyone,
I am trying to come back to CC after 1st year at UC. But, I am worried that I won't be able to get the classes I want in order to transfer (finish IGETC and pre reqs)
So... Anyone who is attending IVC or OCC. Is it hard to get a class or impossible to petition to get into full classes if you have 0 credits to start with?

I’m at Saddleback. If you have never taken a class before, it is really hard to get the classes you need. I am doing what you might try to do, I was at the University of Arizona and left to attend CC this year and transfer to a UC. Fortunately I am an athlete at CC so I was able to gain priority registration. If you cannot get that, you might be in trouble. Classes fill up super quick, and it usually takes 2 years to get the number of units needed to have a good registration number.

I’m at IVC/Saddleback. I’ve had problems petitioning before, but I heard that if you apply for the honors program you get priority. Or if you’re an athlete. Or EOPS person.

I’m from OCC. It is pretty hard to get in classes if you’re a new student. But once you earn more credits, you get better priority. Make sure to register early and pay your fees right away.

im @ IVC and like hellostranger said, it might be hard your first semester to get all the classes you want, but from then on out you will be fine

^Seriously. Like for a calc I class, expect a ton of petitioners. As you go up further though it kinda lessens. My calc III class had a few empty chairs the first day, which was kinda unbelievable since I was used to petitioning for everything.

Hardest classes to get into? WR1, CS36, PHYS4A.

Ivc student here. You should be alright as long as you register early. If you procrastinate u might be lucky enough to find a spot in a 7am or 7pm class. As far as petitioning goes, chances are slim. Basically just show up the first day, pray that an enrolled student doesn’t show up so u can take thier place. As far as I know credits don’t matter when petitioning, it’s just a matter of luck.

Dinotubin, how did u get in EOPS? I tried to sign up a month or 2 ago and they said they couldn’t accept anymore ppl bc budget cuts or whatever. I think I have a pretty good chance of getting in if they were actually letting ppl in, as I have an EFC of 0 among other factors

I started out at Saddleback and now am going to IVC. My first semester at Saddleback I got pretty crappy classes but made sure to just get all UC transferable ones (Like Anth10 Celtic Cultures lol)

It all worked out though. Petitioning is a nightmare in some classes and a cake walk in others…your best bet is to remain flexible and hit up all the times for a particular class you’re going for. Being lucky is a good thing too. Out of all the lotteries I’ve been in for class petitions, I never got a single one

kay so i just registered for classes at IVC and i got my SOC1 ans ECON1 class but my writing and math classes are full. how hard is it to petition a class?
i already emailed both teachers but im wondering if i should have mentioned my “situation.” should i have mentioned my grades in HS? i graduated with a 4.2 gpa but i didn’t want to sound like i was bragging i just want to make it clear that i am a serious and dedicated student. i plan on going to the first class like two hours ahead of time so i can talk to the teacher first. i really hope it works out. does anyone have any advice?
