Anyone attending the Trinity 360 this weekend?

My daughter and I plan on attending the Trinity 360 this weekend to see how she feels about staying on campus and attending sample classes, etc. We will try to post after our visit.

im looking foward to seeing the post !

me too! Hope she has fun!

My D and I attended the Trinity 360 this weekend. I dropped her off at the admin center to meet up with her host for the night on Friday. She spent the night in the dorms with a 1st year and her roommate. She had a lot in common with the girls. My D is pre-med and so are the girls she roomed with. She loved the dorms, she said they were huge, walk-in-closets and 1 bathroom shared between 4 girls. Each room has a balcony or patio. They had a great time in San Antonio and back in the dorms staying up late talking.

We started off Saturday morning with coffee, muffins and juice in the student center. They escorted us to the auditorium where the head of admissions greeted us and they had the head of the humanities department due a very enjoyable introduction. The students were escorted out to attend student oriented sessions while the parents stayed seated for a 5 student Q & A panel from current freshmen. Most had plans to double major or at least major and minor in to different areas. The one thing that I took away from this session was the students seemed to have genuine interaction with their professors and they felt a real part of a family at Trinity. Next I attended a session on New Student Orientation (6 day program prior to school starting) and then one on Academic Advising. Since they only have 640 students in each incoming class they have the ability to set up a very specialized advising. They don't declare their major until their sophmore year though if they are pre-med or engineering they have a more guided curriculum though it still leaves a lot of flexibility. They have a faculty advisor that works with their dorm resident mentor and they form their advisement team. The same 15 or so students live in the same section of a dorm and are advised by this team. It allows them a cohesive approach and a strong support system. We ate a lunch in the cafeteria that was very good. They have lots of different options and the prices seemed to be fairly reasonable. We were also give the opportunity to go on tours of a particular area, arts, sciences, communications, etc and the amazing thing was many of the professors and heads of department were there to conduct the tours. All of the professors I spoke to were PHD's and seemed very current in their field. On Thursday before our arrival, Tony Blair had been on campus to speak and the students were buzzing about that. We also attended a "mock" class of HUMA 1600 which is a combined writing and lecture seminar. The teacher was engaging and I could see why his classes were very popular.

All in all, I came away with a very postive impression. Everyone enountered was friendly, knowlegeable and helpful. Though my D is still deciding between Trinity and an East coast school, I think anyone looking for a quality liberal arts education at a resonable price should consider this school. Plus the campus is beautiful!

---one Mom's opinion.....

Thanks so much for sharing that. I hope we are elligible to attend next year.
