Anyone Auditioning Soon?

I have a question for those of you who received Mason Gross acceptances today. Like I said earlier, my D auditioned on Jan. 25 and a week later they sent an email. It said thanks for auditioning, we know it’s stressful waiting for decision. The admissions/dance dept. will provide you with a decision as soon as possible. I’m beginning to wonder if they only sent those to people that did not get in. Did you receive that email? Did you already have an academic acceptance? Their website says an academic decision would be no later than Feb 28th. If you girls auditioned on Feb. 8th, then I’m assuming my D won’t get in.

I wouldn’t assume that! I auditioned the 8th as well @DDdances I wonder who your D was. @caymangirl38 I got the same email a couple days after my audition saying the same thing. I was academically accepted already, for awhile actually, I think it depends on when your D applied so, hopefully you’ll find out the 28th. Have your D check her portal though, just incase, it’s the website you applied on. Today I got an email saying that a decision was available and to follow the link to see my decision letter which directed me to my Mason Gross portal that I used to fill out my audition application. I also checked my Rutgers status portal and it said admitted as well and that it was updated the day before my Mason Gross portal. They said no later than April 1st for a Mason Gross decision!

Thank you for your feedback. I’ve calmed down a bit, trying to think it through logically. My D sent her app in sometime in November for regular decision. I keep telling myself “No news is good news.” We haven’t got a ‘No’ yet.

Rejected from buffalo and was placed into the BA for dance. Kinda bummed though. I’m going to enroll in rutgers as a BA and then see about re auditioning for the BFA.

Congrats on Rutgers/Mason Gross JDancer! That’s great news!

Thank you @zebrarunner I’m very excited!
@78jade I heard of many times people getting accepted into the BFA at Rutgers, usually early on as well. Best of luck to you!

@caymangirl38 my daughter got an email telling her to check her portal. I don’t know if she got the other email before that - she’s often not forthcoming about communications like that. Keeping fingers crossed for you and everyone waiting for a decision.

Terrible day yesterday – DD was cut after ballet/modern classes and before solo and interview at Purchase. My heart really broke for her; this was her first choice. Lots of very talented auditioners. DD’s focus has been modern, but it seemed to her Purchase is looking for significant talent/accomplishment in ballet. To her credit, she said it felt like a wake-up call for her to redouble her focus for other auditions and for her future. Hard day, though.

Congrat @ jddancer

Still waiting on Rutgers here. It definitely should be by the end of this week. DDdances, bad here as well yesterday. D auditioned in West Palm Beach for Marymount Manhattan and got cut before solos. She is so upset, that was her 1st choice. But the thing we feel we are noticing, is when these schools hold auditions off-site, they are at some of the best performing arts high schools. A few girls in there yesterday were from that school. My D said it seemed the teachers played favorites. My D didn’t even get offered corrections, but she said it was always the same people. I’m sure the colleges have a definite connection with the faculty at these schools and “look out” for certain students. And when they spoke to the parents before they stated that “We’ve already made many offers, there is only 1 audition left in March.” So my husband and I were thinking, maybe they don’t even have that many more spots left. They stated that fact 2x. That made me feel like we may be wasting our time. Then they stated, “We expect these dancers to be at the level of our current BFA’s.” Well to me thats not very realistic. That’s why I’m sending my D to your school, so she can get to that level. This is definitely an eye opening experience. My husband went to med school and thought that process was super selective. We now think going into the Arts is 10X harder. I’m just very disappointed today with this whole process, but if this is the industry D wants to be in, this is the tip of the iceberg. And we will never give up until her dream is realized.

@caymangirl38 I was cut from Marymount at their last NYC on campus auditions, that cut my list in half making it my 5th rejection that week, luckily I got Rutgers (still kind of in shock) because I already started scrambling to apply and audition to other schools last minute, but that all stopped. The attitude was definitely similar not really with the performing arts high school students, people were there from all over it seemed, but the whole BFA thing and regarding offers was definitely there. They made it clear that they wanted to send offers out quick so that they could get a class secured already and that they wanted people making decisions. I thought that was odd considering May 1st is the deadline for decisions and most schools notify by April 1st. I mean I really want to know where I am going and decisions, but still. There was 85 dancers at the audition, and it seemed they only callbacked about 25-35 dancers. Good luck to you and your D, hoping for good news for you soon!

@Caymangirl38 I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s experience at Marymount (and same for you, @JDancer) . My DD is auditioning there in 2 weeks, so it’s good to be aware of the cut (I wasn’t). It really is rough, but there is a light at the end of all this. Thanks for commiserating. @Caymangirl38 I hope you hear positive news from Rutgers tomorrow!

I was accepted into the BFA at Rutgers Mason Gross this past Thursday, I auditioned Jan. 25th. Earlier this week I also received an acceptance to UMass Amherst dance. Really excited!

@DDdances Also, forgot to mention sorry about SUNY Purchase. I would say that’s definitely one of the hardest programs in the country to get into. As my Mom always tells me, the fact that your D auditioned is guts enough, it’s a hard thing to do. She already has some good options though, right?
I’m still very thrilled about Rutgers though, nothing can bring me down at this point
Congrats @amberc96 you have some great options and choices! Great news

Congratulations @amberc96!! Both are great choices, and at UMass you also have the Five College Consortium so can take classes at Smith, Mt Holyoke etc., correct?

@JDancer thank you for your comment - and exciting about Rutgers!

@Caymangirl38 just letting you know that Marymount sent a artistic rejection letter from the dance department, as if I didn’t know already after I was cut!
I have actually been getting a lot of mail from schools that I have been artistically rejected to, which is kind of a kicker, in my opinion and completely useless!

My D has her Univ of the Arts audition on Saturday. Then Montclair State in mid-March. Does anyone on here know much about Montclair’s dance program? Or auditioned there? I can’t find a thread about discussions on that school. Still waiting on Rutgers too.
