Is any freshman planning to bring a car to Duke this fall?

a LOT do. you definitely won't be the only one if you do, but you also won't be the only one who doesn't if you don't.

i am... what percent of freshmen do? they must all be from like sc, nc, and va....

I'm guessing about 20% of the freshmen bring cars since there are only 319 red zone spots and about 1600 freshmen.

IMO freshmen year is actually a good time to bring a car because parking is so convenient on east (unlike on west).

There are many open spots on east campus, and many freshman bring cars. It is very convenient as a freshman since you are not exactly in the center of things. The parking situation gets much worse sophomore year.

Do people actually drive all the way to Duke? I am from Texas and there is no way I am driving by myself to North Carolina. How do these ppl get thier cars there, I mean what do ppl from Cali do?

I drove from RI in one day (don't recommend doing again...took me about 12 hours)

I bought my car here in North Carolina but I drove it back to New Mexico when I studied abroad. I then drove it back to North Carolina. The trip took three days but I could probably make it in two if I pushed myself.

So to answer your question Dbate: yeh, people drive their cars to Duke. But I wouldn't recommend doing it by yourself. (I had a family member drive with me and then fly home)

Dbate: many ppl from cali will buy a beat up used car while at Duke junior or senior year and use that.

I personally drive from DE to Duke and back all the time. The drive is about 5-6 hours total. I once flew home from RDU to PHL, but with delays, security, getting there early, flying, getting picked up, driving home (40 minutes) it took about that much time anyway. It was cheaper to drive too. I fill up twice and pay $9 in toll on a round trip. That's about $100 which is about the price for a one way ticket usually.
