anyone bringing a Safe?

if so, could you recommend one?

i need one that is about medium sized, like a cubic feet.

i prefer one that you can chain it to the bed or something.

thanks.

doesn't have to be MAXIMUM security or anything...

You're actually going to chain a safe to your bed?

you'd be better of with a book safe, no one can tell the diffenerce and it might be better than one everyone can see

I'm just bringing a footlocker with a padlock on it

yeah just something to store passport, other important items in

no i'm not that anal enough to use a safe. important items went in a folder underneath my clothes in my dresser. just put things in places that aren't obvious. and if something is SOOO important that you question bringing a safe to chain to your bed, then you should seriously question if it's necessary at all.

They have chests at Bed Bath and Beyond with locks on them. You can fit it under your bed and put all your clothes in them as well as your expensive stuff that you fear being stolen. I got one of those instead since getting a safe is like putting up a sign that says "steal me."

get a lockbox and drill a hole in it so it can be connected with a cable to the bed. its much easier and more affordable

Getting a safe is an excellent way to send the message "I trust you" to your roommate.

the roommate will understand. besides sometimes its not the roommate who is the problem, but the roommates friends. my roommates friend last year was a clepto. Seriously, she would take food from peoples fridges and pens from peoples desks and stuff. so i locked up all my important stuff and then asked my roomie not to have the girl in the room

Yeh, I also need to store a passport. I hate having important documents on me sigh

Sorry to side track the thread (well its a similar topic). I was also wondering about jewellery, should i leave it all at home? I feel kind of naked without it, and it does hold sentimental value, but i would not want any of it stolen. Am i just being highly paranoid?

At boarding school money use to go 'missing' all the time. Well at least my money would, i was stupidly naive. Now that has been replaced with paranoia.

dont bring any expensive or sentimental jewlery or anything of that nature period. If you feel you have to wear jewlery, then get some nice costume jewelery. Some good pieces that go with everything.

leave expensive stuff a home

or just wear fake bling

or lock ur door when you arent there, and put in a baby cam to monitor ur roommate.

I get rashes when i wear fake (it sounds like a lie girlfriends tell their boyfriends but unfortuantely in my case its true). I guess i could wear plastic lol.

thanks for the advice guys, i will slowly wean myself off my jewlery... cries

How about laptops? I'm sure there are many people who choose not to carry it around with them all the time when they're out, how do they make sure those aren't stolen?

get a laptop lock. it inserts into your pc, sorta, and has a combination code. than you attach the cable to furniture

I have heard that you can get laptop locks ... i have no idea how they work but i remember reading about them somewere.

sorry the above person beat me to it.

yeah, laptops get stolen, be wary

i doubt someone in your college would steal it though unless you were making it readily available, or if you have street access and some no good kids get wandering.. but still, ur leaving it readily available
