Anyone care to rank public colleges (to like 10 spots) on the quality of their general undergrad education.

No. (ten characters)

thanks, anyone else?

This isn't in order really but

Berkeley
UCLA
Michigan
Wisconsin
Virginia
UNC
UT-Austin
UCSD

ummmm..yea?

UVa-UNC
Cal
Michigan, UCLA
Wisconsin, UTexas
William & Mary, UCSD

UCB
U of Michigan/UVa
UCLA/UNC
Wisconsin/Illinois/UT Austin
Georgia Tech
W&M

Someone, I think Alexandre, though it was best to tier the publics, and I thought that was a good idea, so here's my list....

Tier 1: Berkeley, Michigan, UVA
Tier 2: UCLA, UNC, Wisconsin, UT, William & Mary
Tier 3: Illinois, Georgia Tech, Washington, UC San Diego, Minnesota, Florida
Tier 4: UC Davis, Penn St., Maryland, Ohio St., Colorado, Pitt., Georgia, UCONN and a lot more...

Not sure where to place New College of Florida, but probably either Tier 2 or Tier 3.

Note that UVA has about 13,000 undergrads, W&M about 7,000. Most of the other schools are mega-Us with 30,000 or so. The undergrad feel will be much different in a smaller group. New College is about 1,000 and an entirely different animal.

The officially published rankings:

University of California-Berkeley

University of Virginia

University of California-Los Angeles

University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill

College of William and Mary

Georgia Institute of Technology

University of California-San Diego

University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign

University of Wisconsin-Madison

University of California-Davis

University of Washington

(I think these are a couple years old though)

William & Mary
UVirginia
Cal
Michigan
UCLA
UNC
Wisconsin
Washington
Ga Tech
Illinois

New College cant be compared to the rest. Reed/Bennington of the South. W&M shouldnt be compared to the rest (5500 undergrad vs 15k-30k+ for the rest) UVirgina is almost the perfect hybrid . part W&M/part Michigan.

If there were an "overall" major it would make sense to rank overall undergrad publics. For the student that knows what they want to pursue there are better ways to evaluate colleges, public and private.

Cal
Mich/UVa/UCLA
UNC
Georgia Tech
UIUC
UCSD
