Hi, I'm a new member here, I post this because I just got the rejection from UCLA...
Very sad..I don't know if I should tell my mom about this (she will get more upset than me!)
I have read some posts about geting rejection letters from UCs and other schools, and I totally know how that feel...knowing your dream has been crushed is pretty tough

anyways, does anyone know if I still stand a chance of getting into UC Berkeley (that's where I wanna go), I got pretty upset because I thought UCB would be tougher to get in than UCLA...and I applied for engineering school (Ivy seems impossible now...)

Everyone is welcome to share what school they got into,

Mine aren’t very top tier like all you crazy smart kids on this site. I work my butt off and manage to earn a B average (most likely due to being diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety combined).

Arizona State University - Accepted
University of Arizona - Accepted
Northern Arizona University - Accepted and Attending in Fall
UC Santa Barbara - Rejected

cicichen: What we your scores and grades? I have three friends who applied to MIT and CT and all three were rejected. Two of those I expected but the third surpised me alot. This dude had a 2300+ SAT and great ECs and he’s won science fairs since we were in elementary school. He’s the type of geek that I expected to get accepted to both schools. If he didn’t make it what geek does.

My GPA was okay I think. Got A’s from freshmen year till first semester of my senior yr, but I only started taking AP/Honor this year, so my weighted GPA is not as high:4.07.
And my SAT sucks!!! I guess that’s what hurts me-I’m a new immigrant coming from china, I’ve been here 4yrs, but English is not my strongest subject–I got 1700 for SAT I.
I applied to MIT and CT because I’ve won a lot of science fair competitions, including Intenational Science Fair…but I guess that’s not enough for MIT or CT or even UCLA…

Does anyone know if I still stand a chance for UCB??? It really hurts me to think that I’ll get rejected to berkeley!!! Anyone know when stanford will send out the letters??

thanks!

keep sharing your college lists!!!
And iambored10, good luck!
Reya Lovely-not everyone’s smart, I got horrible sat scores! glad that you already decided where to go. I’m still pending…

My GPA: 4.0 unweighted 9 AP classes total
SAT I: 2210 out of 2400
A lot of ECs too lazy to post the link to my chance me thread.

University of Washington (normal): accepted back in December
University of Southern California (USC): accepted (Presidential Scholarship so half of everything paid for I think… because I got National Merit Finalist)
Washington University in St. Louis: waitlisted by those b_stards
UPenn: waiting <- Top school but since I got waitlisted by St. Louis I am losing hope
Harvard: waiting (probably rejected)
Yale: waiting (probably rejected)
Stanford: waiting (probably rejected)
Johns Hopkins: waiting
Duke: waiting
University of Chicago: waiting

It is normal to be rejected by MIT. My D got into 5 UCs - Davis, Irvine, Riverside, San Diego,
LA (waiting for Berkeley) is still rejected by MIT. Her GPA is 4.46 w/ combined score of ACT 34 (SAT 2250). My coworker’s S who has perfect score is also rejected by MIT.

You got into UCSC! So there’s still hopes! we need to be positive…

angryasianman:

Haha! I like your name! I feel that Asians are being juded too high in some ways… I heard that some Asians don’t even want to put their nationality on applications because some schools only take certain # of asian applicants and they expect much higher from you.

They especially don’t like admitting too many of us Chinese/Taiwanese people. I was thinking about not puttin my nationality up there but then I decided to put it on there anyways because I am proud to call myself Chinese/Taiwanese. I give the middle finger to those who dislike us because of who we are. And I can’t believe I was so stupid not to apply to the UCs. UCs are the most Asian friendly places and I really want to stay on the west coast (and Stanford is really the only “top school” I applied to that is on the west coast). But I also hear that UPenn is Asian friendly. I hope I get into UPenn.

So many rejections from MIT…
I wonder who are considered “qualified” for them?
They makes the decision seem so easy and so stress-free, and their admited students keep saying:“it’s not hard to get in!” but the reality is harsh…
Nevertheless their web design is very nice…I still like MIT…at least they are encouraging…

Have anyone tried to send supplements to any private schools? Stanford doesn’t want any supplements sent from applicants, which kinda hurts me…
I think Harvard (of all the schools I applied) is most positive toward students, it encourages students to send supplements and issue interviews for everyone…
I’m just happy that I actually did try to apply to Harvard! lol
How many of you applied to some colleges just for trying?

I’m proud of being Chinese too! Plus, they would know your nationality from your last name anyways, so there’s no need to hide! It’s a good choice to apply for Stanford! It’s really hard to get in…And for my school, it’s said that no one has been accepted by Stanford in ten years…(but my school isn’t even a good public school)

But seriously, anyone got into CalTech? caltech was actually my top choice…-_-
Oh and I atually visited Harvard last nov, and I had a brief dinner at their resturant (went in with a friend’s friend who was a freshmen). One person at the table told me that she only applied to Ivy schools and Harvard was the only college accepted her! Can you guys believe that? lol

I know you’re disappointed but MIT probably accepted under 12% this year, so of course many qualified people can’t get in. And if you’ve ever visited, you’d find it hard to think they discriminate against Asians.

All of the schools that accept under 15% are a complete crap shoot. Brace yourself for HYPS. They will all accept under 10% and when you do the math–40% of the accepted have hooks–the acceptance rate for the unhooked is a low single digit. The other ivies are no longer much better. The RD rate for the mid tier ivies will be under 7% and then there’s the hooked at those too…

Well, sorry if I sounded like I was so upset of not getting into MIT…
I actually was upset getting rejected from Caltech though, that’s where I wanted to go…

I was just curious about who got in MIT since a lot of posts mentioned people that they know didn’t get in, and these people are far brighter than me!
I actually visited MIT last nov for a competition, but I didn’t actually talk to any of the students (busy finding directions, finding resturants, etc), and I really didn’t mean to say MIt discriminate Asians, I just feel the competition is getting tougher generally.

When people get rejected, some would get really upset (like me, haha), but then I move on and I’m suprise to see how much I cared about it…

And I’m feeling much better now that I said it here…haven’t told my mom yet…

fingers crossed with ucb…I’m pretty sure I’ll end up going to one of the UCs.
