I sent in my forms, and I now have a Stanford email address and such, although I have not yet officially heard back from the office. Anyone else sent everything in?

So far, I've held off on confirming my enrollment with Stanford and on saying, "No, I won't go," to the other schools. I'm like 99.999% sure I'm going to Stanford, but you never know what may happen, so my parents want me to wait another month before sending everything in.

Yeah, I did. But I haven't got the sunet id letter yet. Although they did send me a letter to confirm that they've enrolled me.

Not yet, I'm still waiting for my other colleges. But Stanford is my first choice :).

asaatvik - that's weird that you haven't gotten the sunet id - I got mine months before I enrolled. Still haven't gotten confirmation about my enrollment, though.

Anyone have facebook yet?

Maybe it's because I live in India. Dunno, anyway, I'll be sending them an email today...

I confirmed my enrollment already in December; however, I'm thinking if I still want to go because Yale and MIT are offering me better financial packages. (Yes, I know I found out really early. I got a "likely" letter from Yale and a call from a rep at MIT)

I have a facebook already. Look up Mike Ponce. I haven't worked on my profile yet, so there's nothing there yet.

What comes with confirming enrollment? I take it a Stanford email address and Facebook. Anything else?

That's all I've done so far. I think you get your own webpage, too - but I haven't figured that one out yet.

Plus there's always the satisfaction of knowing for sure where you're going next year. :)

Well, a SUNET id lets you log into a lot of stuff - the Career Development Center, Axess etc.

If you want to make a web page, just securely FTP into elaine.stanford.edu and put the files in the WWW directory.

im_blue, you seem to be a knowledgeable techie. A couple of questions:

Is VOIP possible in/out of the Stanford network?

Once an admit has a Stanford email address, is there any reason to postpone doing a Stanford-through-Dell laptop purchase?

Any advice on cell phones (Cingular, I hear) and plans?

Thanks.

Yes, you can do VOIP on the Stanford network.
http://www.stanford.edu/dept/itss/clientsupport/helpdesk/faqs/voip.html

Once you have your e-mail address, you can get student discounts through companies like Dell, Apple, and Cingular. If you don't already have a plan, you should get Cingular because it's the only provider with a mini-tower on campus, so it's the only game in town. You can get 5 bars anywhere on campus, while other providers like Verizon only give you 1 or 2 bars which disappear as soon as you walk inside a building. For plans, I would get either the $39.99 plan which comes with a choice of free phones, or go prepaid which costs a minimum of only $100 per year (at 25 cents per minute). After you sign up, you can switch over to the employee discount plan with your Stanford e-mail, which gives you 15% off. Everyone's required to pay for a landline, so you may find that a prepaid phone and landline calling card are adequate for your needs.

That VOIP looks very official and apparently costs something. Can you just set up your own do-it-yourself freebee?

I assume Stanford will let you use something like Skype/Google Talk etc.
