There has not been any activity for awhile on this forum. Just wondering if any seniors on CC are considering or planning on attending OU in Sep 10. I am from out of state and planning to go visit soon. I have not yet seen the campus. I have heard that the Honors program has a floor in the Towers and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on that versus the Honors Floor. Does anyone know which specific dorms these are in and what they are like?

Although our son has received a “likely” from UVa and is waiting to hear from Amherst, he expects to attend OU as a National Merit Scholar in the fall and has been admitted to the Honors College. Although listed by US News & World Report as an urban campus, it is actually more suburban, and reminded both of us of UVa, his favorite campus. The Towers are the best dorms we have seen, being 11’ x 16’ with 2 rooms sharing a bathroom. They have a National Merit, Honor’s College and Quite floor, but the demand is high for these. The Honor’s dorm needs to be remodeled. The food is also outstanding. OU started as a “safety”, but is now his 1st choice, although we haven’t visited Amherst.

OkieDad thanks for the feedback! I have only seen the campus online. Hope to go in April.

hsmom6 Could you please post any thoughts after your visit this weekend. I too became interested in Oklahoma from the NMF offer but I am trying to find out more about OU.

Me too. I’m from Oregon, and definitely going to OU with a NROTC Scholarship. I visited the shcool 4 months ago, and it’s beautiful. It’s perfect for me and can’t wait to there this August.

I’ve decided to do the OU honors college program as a history major with the National Merit scholarship. I can’t wait! The money I’ll save as an undergraduate will go toward law school in the future.

Nice to hear from people about OU. hsmom6 I am also looking at UTulsa and Alabama now. I have also heard back from some other schools in New England and DC/VA area. I am from the East Coast. I hope to finally check out the OU campus in a couple of weeks. Curious on your impressions after your visit this weekend!

HobT10, the campus is HUGE, when I visited there, the feeling was overwhelming, especially come from a small city from Oregon. By the way, OU Classes start on 08/23/2010. I’d love to answer anybody’s questions.

Ou was D’s first chice until she got into UT :)…she LOVED OU and I would highly recommend a campus visit. It is a beautiful campus, almost ivey league looking architecture. The school spirit is infectious. As someone stated earlier, the dorms are very nice and seem conducive to meeting lots of other students…I would not rule it out until you visit.

HobT10,
My daughter is planning on attending this fall. We went out last summer for a look and will return again over spring break. She loved the campus and was fortunate enough to qualify for their NM scholarship. She will be out of state also. We toured the towers…pretty nice to this Mom’s eye. We are planning to see the honors dorms this go round so she can decide where she wants housing. I’ll see if I can get her to hit the boards to chat with you. Do you have a major selected?
The campus was lovely and not so big that you couldn’t take a walk around and figure where you were easily. Cherokee Gothic is what the architecture is called. The town has a nice little pocket of stores and restaurants called campus corner just across from the main entrance to the school. The tower we saw had their own restaurant, food and mini mart in it and I think it was the same for the others but can’t quite recall. She has a guy in her homeroom that I understand has a wrestling scholarship at OU as well. Will try to get more dorm specific info for you while we are there.
I was was quite struck by the high opinion of the school prez…David Boren…not just the students but the merchants in the town as well.

Haha everyone is so intelligent- I feel like a complete loser, although I got good grades in school- anything involving math I got a ‘C’ in … and I’m a horrible test taker because I get so nervous/get headaches and cannot think straight so I have only a 24 ACT and 1550 SAT.

Anyways I’ve already been accepted to my two safety schools, and OU is the school I really really want to attend. I visited the Campus last year- it’s HUGE and beautiful, and the ‘towers’ dorms are really really nice as well!

I applied two months ago and I called the campus last week and they told me they’d be reviewing my application in 1-2 weeks… I’m very anxious. I’m probably the only one worried about getting in since all of you are probably just under or equal to ivy league students

And FINALLY someone posts in this forum! I thought NO ONE was attending OU!

I am glad to see people posting on OU! My son and I leave tomorrow for our visit. I will post his thoughts when we get back on Thursday. We are visiting another college as well.

I’m willing to bet he/she is referring to the University of Texas at Austin.

Last year, OU had a 93% acceptance rate, so I wouldn’t stress too much especially if you have good grades. At worst, you may get waitlisted if you’re OOS–but even then your chances are still good (>75% of waitlisted students are admitted).

inoacharm,
The one thing I do not care for on CC is that somehow there are always children and parents who will feel inadequate on some level. I hate to even think I might have inadvertently made you or anyone feel that way.
Frankly the older I get ( let’s say 50+ and leave it at that) the more I think EVERYONE is smart about something.
I hope you get in to OU because you want to and I think the school always benefits when there are students attending who really want to be there.

Wow I didn’t know their acceptance rates were so high, I was always told they were rather selective… that eases my mind, however!

Thank you, it’s not you or anyone else who makes me feel ‘lesser’ I struggled with math and I’m sure that if I would of taken the time to ask fellow students for help then I would of been alot better off GPA wise- it’s just that I felt really embarrasing letting anyone know I struggled with basic Algebra (functions, factoring, etc.) that most kids in my class had no problem grasping- I never even made it to a calculas class… or a pre calc! (I couldn’t afford tutoring, and two of my teachers during highschool didn’t take the time out to help anyone- however I managed to get B’s in classes with helpful teachers)
