Anyone currently enrolled in their undergrad BME?

Reason im asking is that Its only been around for about a year, and i cant find much about it other than whats offered on their main site.
Is anyone currently in it? How’s the program; is it rigorous? Do you think you’ll be able to finish in 4 years? thanks

the program is quite challenging but i've enjoyed it thusfar...
my first quarter i took calc 1, chem for engineers (1 of 2), social communications (speech), and engineering (combo of general and bmed)

then calc 2, chem for engineers 2, bmed calculations and physics 1

then calc 3, physics 2, indigenous studies and computer science

your freshman year is pretty uneventful in bmed.. chemistry is actually one of the tougher (or most complained about) courses. the engineering is just basics... because you dont want to play with BME stuff until you know what's going on. however by 3rd quarter you should take a really cool bmed class that you actually have a lab and make molds of body parts, so on and so forth. however they didn't offer it the 3rd quarter like they should have... long story anyway if you want further explanation just message me.

kt: I was just wondering if you could explain how the BME department @ cal poly breaks down? Are there subdivisions under BME like: BME:Premedical; BME:Biotechnology etc. Also, what percent of the students are planning to move onto medical school after graduating from cal poly? or do the majority of them go strait into the work force?

oh wow... from what i know there are no concentrations under BME for now. i could be wrong but i remember faintly in my mind someone telling me that.

HOWEVER it is possible to sign up for pre-med under biomed. you just have to take a few extra classes possibly? i am not quite sure. i don't want to go to medical school. however i have met people under premed in bmed. so it is possible to sign up for it!

otherwise i dont think there are concentrations that i KNOW of. i will check on that for you.

there is also a biotech minor here, i am thinking about having that minor :D

the percents you should look for on the cal poly website or ask someone from the administration. if you are going to open house you will be able to find that out.
i do know a LOT of people that want to go straight into the workforce after their MASTERS. (Cal poly has a 4+1 program, so if you stay a masters only takes one yr to get since your senior project is like a masters thesis and many of the classes apply to a masters)
our first bmed class here, this cool professor had a lecture about how we should at the very least get our masters, so that stuck with us.
also i cant tell you how many have gone into the workforce and such since it is a brand new major and stats are hard to tell. it used to just be an emphasis under general engineering..
whew.

I was at the Open house yesterday at Calpoly BMED presentation - the professor mentioned about 5 BMED students tried for med school and all were able to get in without problems. He did mention it is a 'hard' route given that BMED engineering is itself hard in advance of med school
