Well technically I still haven't heard of my decision from USC...but since I've already been accepted to UCLA, I'm just about leaning toward attending UCLA. Of course this is just assuming that I actually get accepted to USC and that I get a really swell financial aid package from them where the cost of UCLA and USC are similar, or if one or the other was just slightly more expensive (I'm okay with that).

Anyways, for those that have to choose, what are your reasons for choosing UCLA over USC? Please list actual legitimate reasons that can be applied for everyone. For example:

1)"Because Bruins own at basketball!!!" does not count as a reason.
2)"Hotter girls, duh!!"
3)"Because UCLA has a better program for (whatever school/program here)." - Like I said, something that can be applied to EVERYONE.

Several reasons that UCLA has already won my heart over USC is the fact that it's in beautiful Westwood and not South Central, the fact that many friends and relatives attend there, and the fact that it's always been a well respected school, unlike USC, whose reputation fluctuates over the years.

Several turn offs, however, which make me lean toward USC, is the fact that UCLA has 25,000 undergrads while USC has 16,000. And I'm just about sure it's very much easier to get classes at USC than at UCLA. In addition, supposedly at USC you'd get more attention from professors. Last, but not least, the whole Trojan Family Network is very appealing to me.

I am facing this dilemma and making this decision is very hard.

I personally prefer UCLA's campus, but the overwhelming number of students is also a drawback. The biggest thing that will determine which school i go to will probably be $$$. I am from a low-income family, and if USC gives me more aid, i will probably have to go to USC.

I am a big USC football fan and UCLA basketball fan (contradiction?... eh), so sports programs aren't going to have much of an effect on me.

I hear the alumni association from USC is a lot better than UCLA so that also gives me another incentive to go there. I guess the only way to truly decide is to visit both campuses and see which one suits you best.

I'm also a USC football fan and a UCLA basketball fan, lol the irony. Actually I have visited both campuses. The thing is really, I loved BOTH campuses equally =

you really do need to visit both campuses, and look at your specific majors/programs.

find someone who is studying what you will be, at both schools. ask them for their pros and cons.

for more general issues, such as location, keep in mind that SC students visit westwood. UCLA students do not seek the area around SC as a hangout. just sayin. atmosphere plays a HUGE role!

on-campus atmosphere is also a big factor. personally, visiting USC as a high school student and having "the trojan family" and tommy trojan and the trojan hall of fame pushed down my throat really was not appealing. i got a feeling of intense pride bordering on arrogance/superiority complex combined with life in a bubble. this was my perspective before i even applied to UCLA, so don't chalk it up to bias.

visit, talk with others, look at programs, spend a night if you can, look at course catalogs, explore. the atmospheres are so remarkably different- pick the one you identify with best.

i think notaznguy was saying NOT to say hotter girls as a reason, thus don't be like "hotter girls, duh!"...he posted on the usc thread and listed this as a NON-legitimate answer:
5)"Because you'll see many USC people driving the beautiful cars, wearing great clothes, and all the hot people " - Um...first of all...I (ME!!!) am not driving THAT beautiful car, not will I be wearing those fancy clothes, and nor will I be able to obtain 500 HOT girlfriends. Enough said.

sigh i spend half my time explaining that emm uses this site as a punching bag...

but seriously. whether or not hot girls is a reason to choose a school... they exist at both schools... a lot of individual things overlap between schools. it's the overall attitude/atmosphere that differs.

BRUINS FTW. Alumni Ass. @ USC is overrated anyways. Unless you REALLY want to go to SC, just be happy with LA and save like 20k a year. I assume you're not getting any crazy scholarships, didn't read your full post. You're just not special enough, or maybe it is just because there was SC in the title of the thread.

You can get a lot of attention from professors at UCLA too, despite it being a bigger school. How? Majority of UCLA students neither participate in class nor go to office hours. This is your opportunity to stand out: participate in class, sit near the front, ask questions, and show up to office hours to discuss the class material or just to get to know the professor more. This is how to get attention from professors at UCLA despite the often large class sizes. Take advantage of the fact that a lot of students don't interact with their professors outside of complaining about grades or asking administrative questions.

i HAD the same dilemma as the OP, but I ultimately chose UCLA over USC for these reasons

1) I got a larger financial aid package from UCLA (USC gave me like a penny of the cost of tuition)
2) I've been to both campuses and toured around, and I can honestly say UCLA def has a more college feel to it for my taste. Granted USC has a very nice campus, I just feel more ar home in the UCLA campus
3) I was able to be invited to the college honors program, so priority registration at UCLA kinda solved the problem of rushing to sign up for classes

What the hell did I do? All I said is that "Hotter Girls" is not a good reason to choose a school.

Actually you didn't.

UCLA is more respected across the country, if you say USC on the east coast people think South Carolina right away. Have you visited SC? I went there for a party with a few of my friends last month, first time I had ever been, and I assumed all the "USC is in the ghetto" was true...but probably a little hyped up. No, it's not hyped at all, it's in the godamned ghetto. That being said the people are pretty much the same, SC has a more vibrant social life, hotter girls etc. UCLA is more respected, better campus, will take you further if you plan to leave Socal.

don't be a bandwagoner... everyone knows SC pays a crap load to get recruits such as REGGIE BUSH who is on the news for getting money from SC instead of making plays for the saints... look at UCLA's recruits, Collison wasn't even a top player out of highschool, Mata Real is from South Gate who didn't play until freshmen year in college... thats coaching and hard work instead of paying money to get better players... just look at who your basketball recruit is for next year... Percy Miller... aka lil romeo lol avg 4 points a game in highschool lmao!

sry on the above post by me i accidently said mata didn't play til college, i meant freshmen year in highschool...
to the two posters that said they are USC football and UCLA Basketball Fans: are you guys celtic fans for NBA too, Giants fans for NFL too? nice bandwagoners...
