Anyone doing or planning to do a Nano-related PhD?

Any of the people currently applying or planning to apply interested in nano-research? Now obviously nano covers the entire range of sciences, so it can apply to a lot of things. I'm just wondering if any of you nano-people are not interested in academia. Perhaps planning more on making your own startup after or some industry related profession.

The reason I ask is I'm interested in nano electro-mechanical systems(NEMS), but I have 0 interest in working in academia. It doesn't seem like there are many industrial applications for the field yet. Now, this should change by the time I get out in 5-7 years, but it's hard to tell for certain. Is this a bet anyone else is hedging on?
