Anyone doing the Ayn Rand Essay Contest?

I'm doing it for Fountainhead. Our AP Lang teacher requires it. It's kind of hard because we read the book over summer, and I'm picking it up again. At least it's due in 4 days. More time to procrastinate :)

i was thinking about doing that essay contest. decided not to though. good luck with yours :)

What's it about? I never heard about it.

Thanks...maybe I'll give it a shot.

Our English class had to do that for Anthem. My essay sucked though.

I'm doing it.

The English teacher forces you to do it? What if you hate Ayn Rand and think her theories are stupid?

When I was in 9th grade, my English teacher forced me to do it. However, this year, I'm doin the Ayn Rand contest because I love the Fountainhead, and I can't wait to write about it.

I'm giving a shot at the Fountainhead contest. I loved that book. Anthem was drawn-out repetitive terror (probably because we had to read it in class, and read it together, and the teacher always reads too slow...), but I picked up the Fountainhead one day and finished it the next morning.

The essays are open-ended. If you disagree, then make a good counter-argument. At any rate, the book is a highly thought-provoking one, and a good read.

I might do the essay if I have time. I haven't read the book yet, and it sounds like something I really wouldn't like much, but if the prize is that much money, I'll write about pretty much anything they want.

you're a sophmore taking AP english?? WOW!

zoogies,

"but I picked up the Fountainhead one day and finished it the next morning."

You finished that big book in less than a day. I don't believe it. How is that possible?

I'm doing the essay for The Fountainhead, but it's rather depressing.... I liked the book a lot and (think) I understand her theories quite well, but my essay sounds like a drunken gothic hobo rambling about how everyone is a conformist and if you have reason they're gonna get you. takes a sit out of his milk carton as he looks both ways, returning to his box behind Domino's

I didn't read it exactly word for word. There were a few sections that I skimmed through more quickly, something I probably wouldn't have gotten away with if I was doing it for a class.

But ask any Harry Potter fanatic...they do well enough with those big huge...800 page...yeah.

The fastest that I could read any good book, including Harry Potter, is 350 pages per day. However, I know people who could read 500+ pages per day, and I simply don't understand it.

It was a very, uh, captivating read. I was reading it while walking down the stairs. It's a miracle I didn't fall :D

yeah I'm doing that essay except I'm only on pg 150. so far so good though... she is kind of a nutjob but she makes for an interesting read.

All the copies at the library were out! Wonder if it's a coincidence...maybe I'll buy it.
