anyone help? ^^^

just got a letter saying i got the presidential scholarship, ie 8000 over 4 years.

OOS
ACT of 33

hey all...my daughter (OOS) also was awarded $2K per year,. so-so ACTs of 24, but top 10% of her class, mostly A's in high school, plys taking community college courses...the $2,000 is a nice gesture, but when the total cost pushes $35,000 a year, two grand doesn't go as far as I would like.
Best,
AB

I got two different letters after I got in. One was for the Presidential Scholarship, $8,000 over four years, and then later, I got the Academic Excellence Scholarship, which was an additional $15,000 over four years. I'm out-of state, number one in my class, 3.83 weighted GPA, 29 ACT.

Academic Excellence Scholarship

* First year applicants with superior academic merit, as demonstrated through Admissions application materials. Recipient's permanent address must be in California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Washington, D.C., or Minnesota. Recipients are required to maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average as well as enrollment in at least twelve credits per semester for scholarship renewal.
* Recipients receive a $3,500 merit-based annual scholarship for four years. The Academic Excellence award is given in addition to the Presidential Scholarship.

I don't get it b/c the National Center for Educational Statistics shows that 65% of students receive grants, and the average grant is just under 9,000/year. Is this mostly financial aid for instate students? 35,000/year for a public U is steep DocRock, which is why my oldest did not apply last year.

UVM accepts 50% of its students from out of state to fill up its coffers...not much aid there typically for OOS.

radannie, that was the answer I was afraid of, but thanks for the info.

And yes, most of those grants definitely go to instate students. UVM is NOT cheap! Even for instaters..

I received the Presidential Scholarship, $12000 over all 4 years.
I am an out-of-state applicant.

astar, congratulations! I knew that some merit awards had to go to some OOS students, but a 3,000 scholarship without any financial aid for OOS, makes this school very expensive---after the merit scholarship of 3,000/year the cost to attend would still be over 31,000-32,000/year.

I also got 3,000 per year, and was accepted to the honors program.

D also got $3K per year and honors.

S just got offered the Presidential $3000 per year. Haven't heard anything about Honors yet though. His acceptance only arrived last week, he didn't apply until Dec.

Interesting... reading thru this posting some people got offered a presidential scholarship of $2000 per year/$8000 total and some people got offered $3000 year/$12000 total.

I was accepted into the honors college (safety school) and offered a $2000 a year presidential scholarship plus another $3500 a year for another scholarship about two weeks later, so a total of $5500 a year or $22000 over 4 years. I'm out of state from VA.

I got 3,000 a year and honors college as well. I'm from out of state w/ a 3.6 gpa and 2180 SAT.

oh well not as much as I'd hoped

I just got accepted tonight!

My S also got offered $3K per year with Honors College. But being out of state, the tuition is so steep (it was a free VIP application, and I didn't check the max merit aid for OOS stiudents until after he applied), I don't think he will go here, unless nothing else pans out. Kind of a shame, since it looks like a good school and a great college town. Why is OOS so expensive? And why do they offer those additional awards only to students from certain states?

In NYS, the OOS tuition is only $10K. You think as a top merit award for OOS students, they'd offer an in-state rate to tempt the best and the brightest from other areas.

moonmaid, this is why my older son did not apply last year.

If someone was deferred in early action, do you know when they would find out the final decision online?
