I had to take a multiple choice test today (AZ).. if I'm in the top 10%, then I'll move onto the interviewing rounds....

Anyone else applying?

Yeah, I'm applying..haven't heard anything about a test though...

How was the test? What kind of material did they ask you?

I'm one of the top 10 seminfinalists in the state right now. The test kind of sucked. If you aren't in AP government right now, it's probably pretty hard. Go ahead and know all your state officials and their party affiliation. The thing I'm not looking forward to is the interview. On the paper they gave me, it said I'd be asked about my state, current national events, and the history of the William Randolph Hearst Senate scholarship.

Very interesting.. what state are you from? I'm anxious to hear more about how your interview goes, as I may be doing the same thing soon enough!

I'm from Alabama. My interview is next Saturday, and I should hear the results soon after that. What state are you from?

From Arizona -- I find out if I get an interview this monday..

Well, good luck with that. I'm going to start studying up on current events!

Cool! I got the interview! I'm excited but nervous...

Could anyone who has done an interview post what kind of questions they were asked? Is it more about me as a person? My political convictions? Random political trivia? Issues of policy?

Thanks!

I'll be able to tell you on Saturday...

Thanks! I can't wait to hear all about it...

Test was a beast! I wasn't far enough into AP Gov for that to really help, and it's been too long since AP US. I don't know if Ohio does interviews, but I hope so. I think that could help me out, and I really want to go.

Well how'd the interview go?

It was interesting. I got a lot of questions I wasn't expecting. They started off by questioning me about my state. A few of the questions I got: What is the biggest issue in your state, and how do you think it should be handled? If you were talking to someone and you wanted to describe the one place that exemplified the spirit of your state, what would it be? What state leader has most influenced your life?

After that, they moved on to national events and the scholarship itself. I would highly suggest researching the scholarship before you go. They asked me some stuff about it that I fortunately knew. They asked a lot of questions about current events: the recent election, the role of the electoral college, stuff in Fallujah, etc. Other than that, know how your experience could help others. But for all I know, they ask completely different questions in each state...

Holy crap!! I won!

I interviewed a few days ago. My 3 impromptu questions were about the media influence on elections, the electoral college, and the sharing of wartime powers between congress and the president. I also gave pre-written speech and talked about my future plans and goals. Nothing too intense, but it was sure nerve-wracking! I didn't have excellent answers for any of them, but apparently I did something right?

I'm still ecstatic.. I can't wait to head out for DC!

How'd you do, m4m? Will I be seeing ya in Washington?

When did you find out? I was told that I wouldn't know until the beginning of January. But then again, different states do it different ways.

But CONGRATULATIONS! That's so exciting! Wouldn't it be cool if I won too and we could meet?

On a side note, have you ever noticed that almost all CCers are overachievers? lol

I was notified by e-mail (as I had been for the other steps in the process). I had been checking my inbox all day at school, and come 5th period, I knew that I had won!
