<p>wow so are u going? my cousin graduated from there last year and now my friend is there also...but just, curious, why do you want to go to india instead of taking the traditional route? I am in the same position as you and am trying to decide whether to go international for guaranteed med school or to stick it out in america and try at an american med school</p>

<p>Here are the reasons why I specifically would want to go to India:</p>
<p>1) No MCAT requirements and guaranteed med school (obviously). The MCAT is a stressful exam and the fact that 48% of premeds do not get into ANY med school that they apply to is not only discouraging but also very scary. Also, the preparation for the MCAT is very intense, and even if you have an excellent score, you still are not sure whether or not you will get into a med school. For example, I know of someone who scored a 44 on the MCAT and had a 3.99 GPA and did not even receive an interview from Duke Med School, even though you would assume that a 44 MCAT alone should guarantee you for any med school in the world.</p>
<p>2) It's shorter and cheaper. Why spend close to $400,000 for eight years of education before residency when you can spend $10000 for six years and attain the same outcome of being a physician? Besides, no one cares where you go to med school, they care where you do your residency. Although, KMC Manipal is the third ranked college in India and the 6 year twinning program in AUA is based on USMLE prep (and you will do your clinicals in America and USMLE prep at Miami), so you should get into a good residency if you work hard.</p>
<p>3) You get to spend more time with your culture. Even if you don't want to go to India and become like the "locals," the KMC Twinning program ONLY has NRIs from the U.S. and Canada, so it's almost like you'll be in America...with Indians, if that makes any sense.</p>
<p>These are the main reasons for me personally, and I think you should look into medical education in India. At least apply, there's no harm in applying, and then make up your decision.</p>
<p>The reasons you posted are good but I have heard that the sought after specialities like surgery are very hard to get into for USMLE's. You have to be a US graduate. BTW I have applied and got into Twinning for July 2007</p>

<p>Nobody has scored a 44 on the MCAT for at least the past three or four years. And a little while before that ago, MCAT scores above 41 were simply reported as "42 to 45".</p>
<p>So your friend may be exaggerating her statistics. Or she might have been in that window, depending on when she took the MCAT.</p>
<p>well i don't know of that person personally...just when I went to visit a college, one of the deans was bragging about her stats and told me about the Duke thing, although she is doing double PHD-MD at yale med school</p>

I'd be interested to hear this Dean's affiliation. Not that I think the Dean is lying, but some people have strong incentives to believe that medical school admissions are harder than they actually are. People who run 8-year programs, or people who run overseas medical schools, for example.</p>
<p>And in any case, Duke's medical school historically has a brutal application with eight or more extremely long, involved essays. If your possibly-44 person blew off the essays ("I got a 44, what is Duke going to do?"), that might explain what happened.</p>

<p>I have applied and been accepted into KMC Manipal and I may go.</p>
<p>I turned in my application ~3 weeks back to KMC, Manipal for the MBBS program but got a reply from them stating that they have put on hold NRI admisions until getting clearance from the Govt as to the # of seats they have for foreign students. </p>
<p>So, did you all apply very early and then they shut it down 'cos they filled up?</p>

<p>Just curious to know if any of you are presently studying MBBS at KMC Manipal. I am a senior in a US high school planning to apply as a US NRI to their MBBS program and so had questions about the process, how hard is it to get in, are most US NRIs there high school applicants etc.</p>
