Anyone else applying to Wes using common app?

I am using common app online to apply to Wesleyan, and under the "supplements tab," the link refers us to a list of optional supplements that wouldn't be used for, I guess I should say, the "average applicant."

Is there an official Wesleyan Supplement? Why can't I find it?

Here is the list of supplement forms Commonapp links to:

These are the web forms:
Wes Inquiry Form
First Year Pre-application Form
Transfer Pre-application Form
Schedule an Interview Form
Guidance Counselor Inquiry Form
Wesleyan Application Checklist (WesCheck)
There are five .pdf files on the site:
Transfer Application can be found here.
Early Decision Statement can be found here.
International Student Certification of Finances can be found here.
International Student Financial Aid Application can be found here.

They want you to file a first Year Pre-application Form. They also want your $55 when you pre-apply. Seems like a ripoff.

Yeah I know about the pre-application. I've filled it out and then closed the window when I saw they wanted money right off the bat. But as far as I can tell the pre-app has no other information, and it seems as though there is no actual supplement to the common app.

I agree with that.

$55 isn't that much of a ripoff compared to a lot of schools' application fees. The reason for having the online "pre-application", I think, is so that they can get everyone in their computer database easily since people may send the common app on paper or online and it's hard to sort out. There's no substantive supplement to the common app.

I have a question about this too: When is the pre-application due--is there even a date? My dilemma is I am deciding between EDII and Regular for Wesleyan and I thought I would have until I submit the rest of the app to decide (the EDII deadline is 1/1, same as regular, although I will be sending it in mid-December in either case), but the pre-app wants to know now. Ahk.

RD and EDII are due on the same date (Jan. 1 if I recall). I'd assume you'd need to have the pre-application in then too. The pre-application is just your name and address and high school, no "hard" questions.

When I was applying I remember they sent out a "still time to change from RD to EDII!" in mid-January so you might still be able to change your mind from one to the other at the 11th hour.

Is there any way to fill out the preapp without paying? I am getting a fee waiver...

I think there is a paper version of it too. I'd call up admissions and ask them what to do if you're using a fee waiver.

I filled out the pre-app in like August and I still haven't paid, haha. I'm waiting until I get my Brown (ED) decision before I officially pay (wouldn't want that money to go to waste if I get accepted). They already opened a file for me because they've received my test scores (I checked through "WesCheck") but that's all I've sent them. If I were you, I'd just fill out the pre-app and pay later.

I couldn't find that as an option; not paying, that is.

orestes- doesn't it cost money to send test scores? You should have waited until you got your Brown decision first before you sent them, that way if you wanted to be frugal you'd save 5-6 bucks I think.

with the SATS, you can send scores to free to 4 or 5 schools (i forget the number); after that it costs

also, i just noticed that, when you log in to wescheck, it has a list of forms and things you have to send. it says "preapplication (optional)." it's optional..?

Yeah, sending the scores was free. And I don't remember not paying not being an option...that's strange. Maybe it's cause I filled out the pre-app so long ago and maybe they've changed it.

Yes, the pre-app is optional :)

They should make paying the fee optional on the pre-app if they want anyone to use it... (or me)

Okay I filed the pre-app. I am SO confused now. Do I just send the common app or is there another Wesleyan supplement? :-[ Is the jury still out on this one? Maybe I should call tomorrow.

...except that it's Saturday. :-/

I think the only other thing that could be considered a supplement is the option of submitting supplemental materials (papers, art, music etc.) I don't think they require a second essay. Anyone agree on this (it is confusing)?

Well if so, that's pretty sweet, at least. All these supplements are driving me insaaaaaane.
