So, I just found out that four (4!!!) of the classes that I had intended to take next year (senior) all fall into the same exact time slot. So I can only take one of them. SO I now have to come up with 3 other classes to take. What fun!

The four classes where:

AP span 4
anatomy and physiology
AP psych
AP calc bc

Anyone else had to deal with an obtuse counseling department and completely not get the schedule that they had originally wanted?

Yeah, had the same problem. Except here, nearly all the classes are in the core curriculum and we're all on the same level- except in Maths. I wanted to get into a more advanced ESL English class (the languages program in my school- they're in 12th grade English) instead of being stuck in the 10th grade class, but the sciences program I'm in are in the same time slot. Also, I really wanted to take Spanish, but for some reason (can't overpass the 36 credits limit)I'll be stuck with the obligatory Religious Ethics instead....

Poor you! How many classes can you choose for one year? 'Cause 4 classes is a lot! Hope you'll find the three other classes.

hey I had this exact same problem! AP euro, AP calc BC, AP latin lit, and philharmonic orchestra all at once, but eventually some of those classes were moved or expanded into 2 classes, so it worked out fine for me in the end.
If you want a nice, fun class where you actully DO learn interesting things - take AP psych! I had it last year and it was a blast. But other than that I'd do BC Calc just for the fun of it. I guess it really depends on what you think you'd enjoy the most, considering that you don't sound too optimistic about having to pick out 3 more courses ;) Hope your scheduling works out all right!

that definitely sucks. Well, I was just looking over my old journals from years past, and every single school year I start each journal with "OMG I FRICKIN HATE MY SCHOOL SCHEDULING DEPARTMENT, THEY TOTALLY RUIN MY LIFE!!!" Yeah, you're not alone at all

I HATE my school. They barely have any AP kids so each AP class is only offered during one period and most of them overlap.

I originally signed up for:

APUSH
Band
AP Calc
AP Chem
AP Lit
AP Bio

Due to scheduling conflicts I have:
Band
School Service (a no credit class, its basically a study hall. I'm self studying AP Chem during this period)
AP Calc
Spanish 3
AP Lit
AP Bio
Online: APUSH

UGH...........so now even though I'm still doing Chem I don't get the AP credit. My teacher will mention how I'm self studying AP Chem during that period tho in her rec. My counselor should also hopefully discuss this in her rec.

I'm stuck in limbo right now because my school's scheduling department is a mess. The chance that my classes actually work out how I want them to is really low though...

well on a minor note...
my school is absolutely RIDICULOUS with their scheduling policies-very biased towards favorites.

I really really really wanted to take an elective (Philosophy) in addition to all my other classes, but they said my schedule was "too full" and that if I asked the scheduling people directly they'd "give me detention" (no joke).

Then, I hear that about 4 people, favorites of the scheduling people, got to have an elective (that takes up the same number of classes per cycle)! Argh. It just completely aggravates me that the standards are so different

I don't get my schedule until August, but statistically I can assume that I won't be taking all the classes I signed up for. Our scheduling department is really messed up. After we get our schedules, there is literally ONE DAY when everyone is supposed to plead their cases to their guidance counselors. After that, there is no way you can change any of your classes. It really sucks.

I dont see why you guys are complaining so much about. Our scheduling department havent given us the schedules yet. It's never happened in years, but this year, the schedule is way too messed up, so nobody even knows what class they'll take until next year.

Yeah- I can't complain either. 5 out of the 8 classes I'm taking next year are only offered one period per day, and my schedule worked out perfectly. :)

Let me put it this way... my school STILL isn't sure when they will offer what courses... and I'm still fighting with them about online courses. -_-

We used to joke at my school that you couldn't graduate until the scheduling people had screwed something up for you at least once. It's a part of high school. Deal.

This is kindof a long story, and it is not the scheduling depts fault, but it was really stressful over the summer....
So, this year around feb, I was looking at other courses beyond AP courses because I feel APs as kind of limiting, and I came across a local 4yr uni had a program specifically for HS kids, so if I get a 4-5 in AP chem, I can take organic chemistry there next year. This required me to have triple late arrival at my school, and I pretty much miss tuedays for labs. Anyway, after about 3 months of struggling through miles and miles of red tape, and getting my GC to talk to the head of the program, and then getting the district manager, and all of there random possitions to talk to him to get approval, i was enrolled in the class (around april-may). Then two weeks ago, the registration website for the actual college came online, and just for kicks, I looked at the ochem section (there is only 1, its a small uni) and not only was it filled, but it had a 4 person waitlist and it was over enrolled. This freaked me out, because the next week, my hs closed registration for AP and honors classes, and because it was already summer, the head of the program at the college was on vaca for 2 weeks (until after the deadline for AP registration). I was sweating bullets for those two weeks because I didnt know if it was still registered, and what I would do with those 3 extra periods in my schedule that I would not fill with ap/honors classes. The head of the program finally returned my call yesterday and confirmed that i was still registered, and I was the person who made the class over registered. so it end in a happy story (hopefully, I just hope I dont do poorly in the class)

mine stinks because i have to take PE next year (sophomore year). also, i have to manage when i take AP classes because of all the necessary graduating-required classes.
