I first received a letter from Yale in tenth grade, which was basically a standard, "based off of your credentials, we think you would be a good fit... congratulations on your achievements in high school thus far...." Then, I began receiving emails about once a month my junior year, and I've received multiple post cards from them addressed to me and my parents. They also referred to me by a shortened nickname version of my full name, which I never use on any registration information. I've never indicated it as a preferred name either. They also sent me a view book, which they've done to my friends nearby, but they continue to send me emails about information sessions, tours, summer interviews, majors, departments, faculty, etc. that none of my friends are receiving. I know that this type of advertising and communication isn't anything beyond getting my interest in Yale, but I was wondering why this was happening only to me and no one else in my grade. Is it because I attend a school that's in an area close to many of Yale's direct peers? (Princeton/Penn/Columbia) Or is it just some weird thing that just happened to me for no reason? Any insights?

I’ve been getting mail too! I think that it may have something to do with a box I checked on the PSAT. I’m not really sure though. My standardized test scores are exceptional, but not perfect (36 or 2400). I do understand that they are interested in people who will add different dynamics to their University, but you would think that they would recruit people with higher scores!

So…are we the only ones, or do people just not talk about it? Hehe.

I get it too lol
