Anyone else cry when they see other CCers stats?

I just can't do it. Compared to my classmates, I thought I was doing pretty good when it comes to academics and pretty great when it comes to my ECs. But whenever I go to CC, I want to cry as I realize what little chance I have at getting into a top school. When I see other's people stats, I can't help but think, "Well, better apply to my nearest state school instead". Anyone else feel this way?

Everyone feels this way when they come on here lol. Just worry about yourself and let the others brag. Don’t let other peoples’ success bring you back. I bet you’re a very good student who’s only over exaggerating. Chill, you’re fine.

No not really. Some people have opportunities I don’t have and I have opportunities other people don’t have. All I can do is try my best and aim, reasonably, high. :)

I wouldn’t compare yourself to other people on CC. The opportunities for different people in different places are largely varied and colleges realize that not all resources are available for some students. Also, in the context of the website, you don’t actually know whether or not people are being truthful. However, even if they are, unbelievable stats do not always get kids into top schools. I wouldn’t worry too much about what you see on here. If your GPA and SAT scores are pretty good (3.7-8 UW and over 2050 or 2100), you have as good a chance as anyone else with the admissions process. After all, colleges aren’t all about ridiculously high scores and crazy amounts of APs. If they were, Harvard would only have students with 2300+ and 4.0 GPAs, which it completely does not. As long as you do what you enjoy, challenge yourself to the best of your ability, and demonstrate a clear passion, you will be fine. Stay confident! It’ll all work out for you.

I don’t think that all CCers are completely honest about their stats

When I first came here, I seriously thought that I was an idiot compared to others on the site. Then I realized I was actually fine and that I could get into many great colleges with my stats. I learned to appreciate my accomplishments and not compare them with others.
But yes, I know the feeling you’re having.

CC is like 10% substance and 90% bragging. Ignore people who are obviously making an attempt to appear superior on this site. Almost everyone who goes on here will end up in college and that’s all that matters. Bragging on the internet can only take one so far.

Who cares just enjoy life :)

Don’t cry because you have to go to a state school. Be thankful for the opportunity to attend a 4-year college.

You’re still better off than a lot of people, both here in the U.S. and the the wider world.

Remember that half these stats are made up. Also remember that most people on CC are well above average, because they’re the kind of people that want to boast.

Hey UKGirl  looking hot
I’m sorry, I’m ruining your thread. Don’t worry. These guys are all braggarts. Disregard others

No, not really when I look at this website…

But when the smartest people you’ve ever met come back from their Ivy League and share stories of the people they’ve met. Oh my goodness. Or who their genius / extremely popular girlfriend is… (Of course often these people all come from schools like Thomas Jefferson for science and technology or often rich parents, but yeah).

I agree that you need to take the stats reported on here with a grain of salt. I also don’t think we can fully assess what an “A” grade is at some schools vs. another. My kids are at a top CA public high school district. I can tell you that students are not allowed to take more than three or four AP classes and even more than two would be discouraged. So when I see people on here reporting a full slate of AP classes, I cannot believe they are as challenging as the ones at our school. I will say that our students are well prepared for college work, and many come back to report that college is in fact easier than their last couple of years at our high school. That is the important thing, and I am sure by the fact that you are working on preparing yourself for this process, you will do just fine.

It is a vast conspiracy that the What are my Chances forum is trolled by 3 underwear clad geeks in a basement with 1000000 different usernames

That’s pretty likely actually.

CC made me feel pretty good actually, looking at those who were accepted to the schools I want to go to (results thread) raised my goals for college

I’m sure people lie.

Especially on the internet

Most of what is posted is wishful thinking, especially the EC’s. The kids who are puffing up the EC’s to saint like status are in for a rude wake up call. Admcom is an expert at sniffing out lies and inflation. Don’t fall for the B.S.

Yes because the people on here are sometimes too hardcore for me to handle.
