Not trying to sound like a total b-tch, but I'm a little disappointed in the major news networks. It's almost as if they completely abandoned real news for coverage of Michael Jackson's death. Mind you, his death is tragic, but when I turn to CNN/Fox, I'm looking for substance. If I wanted pop culture news, I would turn to Entertainment Tonight. Just saying. Anyone else feel the same?

In the end, all they care about are ratings and money. It’s not the networks’ fault though…the average American is an idiot and that’s why idiotic news sells. Perhaps 90% of Americans don’t even know about what’s going on in Honduras right now…it is really unfortunate and it’s no surprise Europeans think we’re stupid.

Because there isn’t enough news to cover a 24 hour news network. That’s been known for a long time. They always pummel big stories to death. This isn’t the first instance. Carry on.

This is why I don’t watch news.

True that, prospectiveMD. It’s unfortunate. I guess they’d rather cater to the 90% who care about celebrities, than the 10% who care about relevant foreign and domestic affairs.

And meh, I’d rather hear repeated coverage of the same IMPORTANT news that will impact the WORLD than repeated coverage of celebs. . .

lol @ Fox News.

Geraldo Rivera has a whiteboard with the possibilities of MJ’s death, they are: natural causes, suicide, drug OD, or, duhn duhn dunh, MURDER.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa

They always do that, I don’t expect anything- except maybe entertainment- out of them so I can’t really say I’m disappointed.

Oh, c’mon! I said CNN and FOX! I usually turn to FOX when I’m looking to satisfy my neo-con needs, but still, there is SOME substance there. :P

rofl @ fox.

At least on CNN they have that little ticker at the bottom fo the screen listing all the stories on their website, including the Honduras situation.

I remember when CNN broke into their news coverage because Paris Hilton was going to jail and they had a helicopter following the police car that was carrying here there <.<

Not much changes every 24 hours, unless a bombing or war happens, then full coverage will totally ignore superficial deaths of stars. Not like they matter, why care for people who are celebrities when there are thousands of others who deserve the same treatment?

And it’s mostly for ratings and moneys.

Real news.

Absolutely disgusting.

Michael Jackson died. Great. I’m sad. Can we move on now?

I don’t understand why there’s a majority who abhor FOX news for their coverage when CNN is just as bad. The day of the Iranian elections, I went to the CNN site to read up on it. On the front page, instead of complete coverage of the Iran elections, there were 4 stories dealing with sex changes, including the “big story” about a lesbian child star actor who is finally deciding to have a sex change.

If your gonna watch the news in my opinion, get multiple perspectives on an issue before you choose a side. CNN is obviously a liberal network that claims Obama can walk on water, and FOX is obviuosly a conservative network that claiims Obama is a socialist dictator. Both networks have the pro’s and con’s, but in the end they’re about equal. Heck, just go watch C-span and decide on the issues yourself.

lololol, I abhor TV news in general but I make fun of Fox because it’s the worst of all.

After watching FOX and MSNBC, it’s pretty clear (at least to me) that CNN is as balanced as it gets even though it leans a little to the left.

I’m a pretty conservative, but I still prefer CNN over Fox. Though, the kids from Dartmouth who rapped on Fox about being pro-life made me giggle.

I agree. Deaths are sad, untimely ones worse, and if it’s a death of a culturally important figure, it’s significant. But it’s not so significant that the coup in Honduras or the still on-going upheaval in Iran, etc., etc. should be ignored.
I also wish we could get straighter reporting. I’m not even talking about left or right leaning. That’s annoying, but it’s not so bad. What bothers me is how incredibly biased reports on some countries always are, eg: China, Iran. You cannot get a singular “just-the-facts-ma’am” article on events in some places.
