I'm a fairly low income student, has a FAFSA EFC of around 1600 (and Princeton calculated it to be 1000) yet Princeton is costing me around $6-7K a year...i thought they were generous with the FA.

I never even thought I would get in, so is it possible i got less because i'm not as strong as other applicants?

Or maybe i'm just spoiled by the ridiculously good aid other colleges are giving me, like a full 54K scholarship at a LAC (they give you a fat $4k check for "personal expenses" + tuition + room/board) or the fact i only have to pay $3k at Berkeley, the state school notoriously poor due to budget cuts.

I don't know, I feel incredibly blessed for admission but also slighted for receiving mediocre financial aid from a school with $12 billion endowment, anyone else in the same boat?

i don’t think so, it says my actual EFC is around 1K calculated by them, but they put 3K of “estimated outside scholarships” + 3K work study + 1K parental contribution…what’s annoying me is the outside scholarships part, i haven’t gotten any : (

^Just email the admissions office telling them that you have no outside scholarships. There was probably a mistake since I remember you are supposed to fill out a form that lists the scholarships you had received. Then beg for more money. They’ll give it to you.

Request that the admissions department review the financial aid package that was offered to you. Be polite. Express that Princeton is your first choice (only if it is) but that you will have difficulty meeting your required contribution. Explain any special circumstances such as recent unemployment. Be confident that Princeton will make it possible for you to matriculate and graduate debt free.

Princeton may or may not match other financial aid packages but the university will provide sufficient aid so that you can attend.
