I took the tour at Duke this summer, middle of July. The admissions officer who gave the session seemed rather unintelligent, uninformed, contradictory, and unorganized. After a disappointing info session, everyone was psyched for a tour of the gorgeous campus. We waited for about 15 minutes until the tour guides decided to show up. One was wearing pajamas (I'm not kidding), and had such an accent that hardly anyone could understand her. She walked with her back to us the entire tour, spoke softly, and wasn't well versed in very many areas. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with the tour and info session. Did anyone else have this experience, or did I just get a bad day? Turns out I didn't really "feel at home" at Duke anyway (campus too big, didn't like Durham, too far away, etc.), but had I liked the school, I might have felt a bit uneasy about applying because of the total lack of organization and professionalism in the admissions dep't.

Wow, my tour at Duke was exactly the opposite. Out of all the campuses I've visited, I thought they had the best info session and the tour guide was great. I think you may have just had some bad luck.

I had a similar tour. My guide wasn't very loud. He also walked backwards in flip-flops, so he kept tripping. The whole tour took about 15 minutes. :/

I know many people who agree with me that Duke doesn't really tour well. I had a great tour guide/info session, but I didn't really "feel at home" either. Believe me though....once you get here it IS home, and you love it. When you're touring you're just an outsider looking in. I feel like there's almost an "are you actually worthy" thing going on, as mean as that is. BUT once you're here you're here and it's the best place ever:)

The admissions office...never had that experience...but look at it this way...you're done with them once you enroll.

I understand what you're saying. Yeah, i had a bit of that "are you actually worthy" thing going on, until a kid I know (who isn't too smart, haha) got in, and then I dropped that attitude. Yeah, Durham just wasn't my cup of tea, nor was the student population make-up (I come from a very very very diverse high school, and as racist as this may come off, I would prefer a more homogeneous population for college, just as a change from what I'm used to). Duke just wasn't for me. Gorgeous campus though- and obviously a great school :)

Haha...well I'm sure you'll be absolutley happy wherever you go:) Good luck!

hey guys, im thinking about becoming a tour guide so whoever gets me will have a blast!
