I'm halfway through my essay, and have hit a huge roadblock.

Starting to consider a year abroad just to avoid writing the rest of it...

I'm halfway through my essay, and have hit a huge roadblock.

Starting to consider a year abroad just to avoid writing the rest of it...

yea i'm experiencing a similar roadblock. is your deadline jan 1?

YES me too. At least you're halfway. I haven't even started my last essay

Basically Jan. 1... As in, this essay needs to be done by then. Roughly half of my schools have a Jan. 15 deadline.

At least I'm not the only one! =)

No, you're not the only one.

I have 5 essays left. Yes, 5. Only one of them can be put off until January 15th. They're all "Why _______" essays too. Those, for some reason, are the hardest. Then I have to finish one I've already started, but can't finish due to Writer's Block, that horrible disease.

Ouch. I'm trying to decide whether or not to continue trying to write this or just go to bed... I'm leaning toward sleep.

Ha, yes I just did mine in the past two days after considering it for an entire month...
Yes, I think I have at least five left too...luckily they're due the 15th as well.

Ahh, we're such good procrastinators. I love my essay topic, too! I just can't seem to write it...

It's the same with me, sammie. I have so many essays to do, it's horrifying. I have the perfect ideas in my head that I can't seem to get on paper! I've concluded that I'm not going to sleep tonight so I can finish all of my essays. My sleep is plagued with anxiety anyway.

Writer's block is the worst................ it's so hard articulating the thoughts you know are swimming back in there in your mind! I found a great way to break writer's block is to search sample essays online, and read the comments that adcoms made on the sample essays. Idk why, but it gets the juices flowing again.

And yea definitely, the why essays are the worst! I just make an outline of points I want to mention, and it goes a lot easier that way.

Luckily I'm done with writing all my essays (just need to get them proofread), but unlike you guys, mine are all due Jan 1 except for one of them... I wrote every single essay except for one in the last two weeks. :-) hehe

Writer's block is definitely not the worst, procrastination is.

Why have I gone out the past three nights when I knew that my future is at stake? Because I'm stupid =P

I procrastinated/had writers block until the holiday break..and then things just started flowing..

Otaru, your gentle bragging is greatly apreciated. Not =). Hah, but really. I know what you're saying... My entire essay is in my head, I actually just verbally "wrote" the whole thing to my mother. Unfortunately, I forgot it all.

Maybe my subconscious is telling me that I don't really belong at college....

Hahaha, sammielue, I wasn't meaning to brag! Sorry if it came out wrong. Trust me, applying to twelve schools in such a short period of time is nottttt something to be proud of. lol.

Well, look at us. It's 1:01 am (at least where I live) and we're on a forum talking about college essays. I think that says a lot about us. I don't know exactly what it says, but it.... it says something. hahahha

I was panicking, but not anymore. I procrastinated until now because I actually thought I had a reasonable chance of getting in early at Williams. Instead, they deferred me (read: rejected--out of 7,000 regular applications, they only take 15-20 deferred kids). For the past few days I've been racing to catch up.

I have four supplemental essays due on the first and one on the second. I've pretty much finished two in the last two days (Middlebury and Amherst). Now all I have to do are Harvard, Princeton and Swarthmore (Incidentally, my only "Why ________?" essay. Lucky me;)) Thank God Dartmouth doesn't have one.

Writer's block sucks. Once I get going, I can usually hammer the thing out in a couple of hours. The thing is, it takes me forever to get going. I'm one of those people who has to have their introduction first in order to write their paper. It can literally take me all day to think of the first two paragraphs. It has to "sound" right, has to catch the reader's attention, and it has to lend itself to a nice, neat conclusion all while transitioning seamlessly into the main body of the essay.

Like I said, introductions suck. I can't wait for the whole thing to be over.

In order to keep my brain from completely frying out, I'm going to bed.

Debater, I know exactly what you mean. The majority of time I've spent writing essays has been trying to get the introduction perfect.

I ended up going to bed roughly 3/4 of the way through my essay... I'm hoping to finish it today. Maybe if I actually write it rather than surf CC for hours...

god bless Dartmouth for not having any supplemental essay

ugh, i still have to do my common app essay.

I'd bless Williams, too, tanveer, but they didn't let me in...

Personal Statement. All I can think about is NPR. How sad is that? I'll do it later....
