Yea I got "special" mail and calls from Harvard; I didn't even sign up for info from them...

it's funny that so many of you are interested in Cornell because I don't think last year's ED group was into it as much. For me, I was almost sure I was going to EA Yale until I visited Princeton at the end of August.

lol phil, yea I was all over the place after deferral; didn't want to get attached to any particular one, but I must admit, none of the other boards was as lively, so I'm quite glad to be back home :p

Anyway, you cute little 10ers, don't fret, it's normal to be intimidated but just give it your best shot and don't ever blame yourself. Good luck.

I just thought it was interesting to read that so many people have Princeton has their first choice and Cornell as their second. Is there any particular reason for this?

It would seem to me that schools such as Dartmouth, Harvard, Yale, or UPenn would be a second choice to Princeton...

My second choice is Georgetown, but my mom told me today that I couldn't apply to Princeton ED. She did the online financial calculator and we can't afford it she doesn't think. I'm still applying but at this point I don't think there is any chance I'll be going.I totally cried when she told me this.

Aww... hug apply regular anyway -- you might be pleasantly surprised!! =) I know someone who got absolutely no financial aid whatsover at MIT and a full ride to Stanford. After all the early estimator is just that -- an estimator.

oh no sarah_mc, I'm sorry to hear that. It might still work out tho! Princeton offers good aid + opportunities if the aid still isn't enough. good luck to you!

But imagine what it would feel like to have to turn down an acceptance from Princeton without knowing where else you might be accepted and how much they might offer you... That'd be agony.

awww, sarah... don't worry about it. Apply RD... trust me, you will attend if you were meant to go! :D

This Cornell-as-a-second-choice fetish we all seem to have is actually pretty funny. I guess I just really felt comfortable there, unlike at other ivies where there seemed to be one glaring problem with each: yale, columbia, and upenn are in a city, brown is uber-liberal in a hippie sense, and dartmouth is small, isolated, snowy, and alcohol-centered.

I dont think that many people last year had Cornell as their second choice. Most people's last year's second choice after Princeton was either Yale or Dartmouth. =P
