Collegemom, would you mind posting his stats? I'm also a political science major and applied a little before him so it would be nice to get some insight :) Thanks

thats weird i got notice of getting in like 2 weeks

PSUFan82: In my opinion, both PSU's and UMD's business schools are very competative and relatively hard to get in to. Both require very good stats. I do believe UMD gives some slight preference to IS students, versus OOS, whereas, PSU does not, so that may make it slightly harder for your S at UMD. Good luck!

Got the 'we'll be closed for the holidays" e mail..............at least I know not to bother checking everyday :-(

Thanks for the input G-Dad. That's what I thought.
This is my first experience with college apps and I never expected it to be this bad.
My son's stats are:CR 580, Math 700, Writing 660. (1940/2400) GPA 3.8 with a few honors and AP's. Based on Penn State's printed info, I didn't expect to be sweating this out as much as I am, especially when other people whose kids are applying to the Lafayette, Lehighs and Bucknells of the world (where my son had zero interest in going), say "oh, Penn State, he'll definitely get in there" (same thing said about Maryland, choice #2; which is not true either)
I knew Smeal would be more competitive, but I'm really nervous for him. He's worked hard and been very responsible since day one of freshman year in large part because he wanted to go to University Park.
The whole is crazy and seems really over the top. How did we get to this point?

Sorry to hear about your troubles, PSUFan. Personally, when I applied to PSU-UP, it took forever and a day to get a response from them. I applied as soon as possible, around August 30, I believe. I did not hear back until about mid January. I applied for Fall 08, but I put that I would do Summer, if necessary. I was accepted to UP for Summer 08. I was unhappy originally, but Summer session ended up being an incredible experience.. Another note: I think that choice of major has a LOT to do with when you hear back. I am an Information Sciences and Technology major (one of UPs most competitive major choices), and I was told that is part of why it took so long to hear from them.

what were your stats last year kglaser?

i was accepted after like 3 weeks or so, it was pretty tight, cuz now i DONT have to go to texas a&m!!!!! woooo

kglasser i applied summer too. everyone who i've talked to who did it loved it. they highly reccommended it. i've heard admittance to the summer session is slightly less competetive...is that true?

^Yeah, that's true.

I heard from PSU last year on Jan 23

Did you attend and what were your stats?

kglasser what were your stats?

I GOT INNNNNNNNNNNN ^________^*** too bad i dont wanna go there.....lolxD

JuiceIBox,

I attend PSU UP right now.
Here were my stats:
GPA: 3.69 uw, 3.9 w
SAT: 610 CR 650 M
Lots of ECs
My short essay was VERY short. I got into the Smeal College of Business and I love it here. I got rejected from the honors college of course but I'm planning to reapply. Be patient though, PSU is really slow with sending out acceptance letters.

Thanks Alot!
My Stats arnt to far off from that so hopefully thats a good sign
