@mom2020dance Congratulations! Did your daughter enjoy the audition process at Peabody?
We came back home from NYC yesterday and my D started putting Peabody application together for RD (I believe Peabody deadline is 01Dec). She also planning to submit a JHU application for double majoring. Since the deadline for JHU is not till January next year, she will wait submitting the application until we hear back from Tisch on 15Dec.
@dancemom2024 My daughter got into Peabody. Her first choices are to be in NYC though we are super proud that she did get into John Hopkins (Peabody)
@emilyhuntnelson Thank you so much. There were at the DTCB audition back in October
@dancemom2024 we attended the Dance Through College and beyond audition where there were around 40 colleges there. She got into at least 20. I’ll see if I can post some of the notifications. All she needs to do at this point is apply to the actual college.
@dancemom2020 how does your D feel about the audition from Saturday, is she excited, did she feel like she did well? My daughter said she won’t audition to anymore schools until she hears back from NYU.
@mom2020dance My daughter enjoyed the whole audition process. She did say that she was uncomfortable at Ballet as she was placed at the end of the barre, where she had to dance against a wall. Other than that, she thinks she did her best. I don’t know how many will be accepted from ED, but we hope for the best, and prepare for the worst. She does not have any plans for audition this year.
As a bonus being in NYC, we treated her with Pall Taylor Dance at the Lincoln Center after the audition on Saturday. It was wonderful!
@dancemom2024 oh how nice! Daughter had the same thoughts about ballet as well. Tell your daughter mine was the one who did hyperballad solo maybe she remembers her.
@dancemom2024 Be aware that (according to D’s friend who is there) it will definitely take 5 years for a double major at JHU/Peabody, and it is made more challenging by the requirement to keep taking additional dance classes during your fifth year. It may or may not impact your situation, but she was also told to withdraw her initial JHU application for the double major, because it would have disqualified her from Peabody’s merit aid (she wouldn’t have qualified for the need based aid which is all that JHU offer). Apparently you can always add a double major later on and she has done that now (though the two separate sites make it hard to fit all the classes in). On the other hand there are lots of performance opportunities and she loves the dance program.
@Twoin18 , thank you for the information about Peabody. I was wondering about performance opportunities there at Peabody. As for the double majoring at JHU, I am sure my D will make a lot of mistakes and learnings in the future so I will not be bothered if this would be the one of them. Or like you mentioned, she can decide not to apply JHU now and go double majoring later. That being said, Barnard is her 2nd choice if NYU does not work. I am sure my D will apply more schools, but I don’t know her plans beyond NYU, Barnard, and Peabody.
anyone else auditioning at Michigan this weekend?
@gmfalv My daughter will be there!
@dancemomx2 great we’ll see you there!
@dancemomx2 how did your D think the audition went?
@gmfalv She thought it went well. She felt good when she left. I was hoping they would find out before March though. How about your daughter?
@dancemomx2 yes same with my D-- she thought it went well too. I heard that some people that are definites will be notified next month- and then most other people in March.
Offer to all the dance moms and dads out there (I am a dance dad, daughter is a Junior in the Ailey/Fordham program) - Message me if you want to ask any process questions, either application or audition. My daughter auditioned at Oklahoma, Indiana, Rutgers, SMU, Towson, George Mason, Ailey/Fordham, NYU, and SUNY Purchase. She got accepted at all except NYU, and she dropped her application at SUNY Purchase after she got a few other acceptances. Same for Ohio State. Happy to share our experience with all.
@corrigg
Thanks for posting this. I would like to know about 2 of those.
- NYU, did you she make it through the entire process and then got a notification?
- Fordham/Ailey, how long does it take to hear from the “Pre-screen” to see if you can actually audition?
-
my daughter made it through the entire process at NYU and did not hear back until really late in the process. I would not suggest waiting to hear from them to add other auditions/applications because it may be too late.
-
my daughter received her invitation to audition from Fordham in either late November or early December.
- We sent in a pre-sceen but have not heard back from Fordham yet.
- Thanks for the information on NYU. My D did make it through the entire audition as well. How did you guys get notified? Was it an email or letter in the mail.
Seems like with the portails all you see is just that you have sent everything in.
NYU will put it on their portal. My D got through the process and was waitlisted. We didn’t know until the end of March.
Wondering if anyone has heard from Fordham/Ailey re: prescreen?
