My D just got a letter last Friday offering her admission off the waitlist at Drexel. Thing is, sh specifically responded that she didn't want to be placed on the waitlist in the first place.

When she was waitlisted, she sent strong mid year grades in and followed up with her adcom to make sure they arrived. We were a little surprised that she wasn't admitted in the first place, but it wasn't her first choice, so just scratched it off the list.

Fast forward to this week and she gets an admission offer, a letter offering her a $9,000 scholarship (no other aid mentioned, EFC $3600) and a letter telling her since she didn't take pre-calculus she has to take it this summer to gain admission. She took precalc this year (grade 100%) and it was on her midyear grades.

Why would Drexel offer her admission knowing there is no way she could possibly afford it, and how could they not know she took precalc, when it says Precalc 12 on the first line of her transcript? Could their yield be a little (or a lot) lower than projected?

D is happy with her choice and has already signed a LOI at another school, so the offer is moot, but the whole thing just seems very odd. Anyone else get a late letter from Drexel?
