I got rejected from engineering.

AP: Lit & Comp, Lang & Comp, Physics, Calculus, US History, Government, Macroeconomics, Computer Science

Not entirely sure why I got rejected aside from the fact that they apparently got nearly 100,000 applicants (which is absolutely ridiculous). It’s just kind of upsetting to see people that have been accepted who have lower grades and scores than I do even though I know that the admissions is holistic and those things aren’t really a deciding factor.

The stupid thing is that I visited UCLA last year and I legitimately hated it and would only go if it was my only choice. Even now, I wouldn’t have gone even if I was accepted because Georgia Tech is a better school anyway. Yet, somehow I’m still kind of put out that I was rejected.

@Callethiel‌ I’m right there with you. I also got rejected with a 34 ACT and UC GPA of 4.25. Unlike you, however, I don’t have a better school to turn to unfortunately, but I am glad that you were accepted to Georgia Tech, congratulations!

Yea, the better school I am hoping to go to is Cal, but now I am worried about getting accepted.

waitlisted with 1960 SAT 4.1 weighted gpa, 3.9 unweighted.

Rejected too :frowning: I have a 35 act, 4.18 uc gpa, and all my ec’s and essays were pretty good. My top choice was Cal, but I have very little hope for an acceptance there now.

@balhblah‌ Unfortunately, all we can do is wait. I’m hoping as well, but with rejections from UCLA and Davis, I’m not optimistic either.

ACT 32, 3.75 GPA (but since UC’s don’t look at freshman year, it would be around 3.85 or higher), few EC’s. applied for Comp Sci. OOS also. Waitlisted at UIUC and Ga Tech (even with a suoerscored 33 ACT, 34M, 34E). Accepted at Purdue and UCSD. Really wanted the UCLA acceptance, but my dream is Berkeley

They had an all time high number of applicants this year: 112,000! UCLA also got more applications than any other college in the United States…so, don’t feel too bad. It was a very tough year for applicants, and lots of really bright, talented kids get turned down, unfortunately. Wishing you all good luck at getting into one of your other choices.

I was accepted to UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCSB, UCI (all I applied to)
•4.5 UC GPA
•2020 SAT Score
•SAT II Bio-720 US History-700 Literature-610(lol)
•CA Resident
•Tons of ECs, even volunteered at UCLA Hospital
•Fellowships/ internships
•Essay 8/10 (wrote about 70lb weight loss two summers ago and my volunteer experience at UCLA)
•URM: Mexican-American (they do consider it)
•APs: Biology (3), World History (4), Eng. Lang (5), US History (5), Calc AB, Eng. Lit, U.S. Gov, Environmental Science
•Awards: AP Scholar, awards for multiple huge service/ volunteer projects, no huge academic awards.

The applicant pool was highly competitive this year with 112,000 applicants (92k+ were first year freshmen). Each individual school this year was the most competitive, with the school of nursing having an A.R. below 4%, the School of Engineering below 5%, the College of Letters and Science below 13%. I am a Biology major (pre-Med). If you are an Asian student applying to any of the the colleges above, it is extremely difficult. Not only must you bring outstanding credentials, but you must be better than those other students. UCLA has a record low number of URMs applying and too many Caucasian (non-Hispanic) and Asians applying. I’m sorry to say, but it many cases this is the reason why many qualified students are rejected. The best way to be accepted is to omit your ethnicity/race on the app (only if ur Asian) and apply as “undeclared”. It is a rumor that if you’re accepted to UCLA you’ll be rejected from UCB, not true. Best of luck wherever you may attend, and do not be discouraged.

As a current UCLA student, I don’t necessarily agree with the comment above me. UCLA does not practice affirmative action. If they did there would definitely be more black students enrolled. Everyone who got accepted rightfully earned their spot here. There were no advantages given to anyone. UCLA cannot accept everyone who applies. I know some of you are angry or sad, but to blame your denial on someone who worked as hard as you on the basis of their skin is not right.

To simply state that everyone is equal and someone who had lower scores got in except you omits the fact that there are educational disparities. What if the person didn’t score high on the SATs because there weren’t any SAT prep classes available? What is they had to take care of their family instead? What if they could afford extra classes? Consider both socioeconomic and political status. This is the purpose of the holistic approach!

“I’m sorry to say, but it many cases this is the reason why many qualified students are rejected. The best way to be accepted is to omit your ethnicity/race on the app (only if ur Asian) and apply as “undeclared”.” I find this particular statement to be very inconsiderate. Students of color do not take spots away from other students. Again, they rightfully earned their spot in the same way Asian and White students have. This stereotype just bugs me so much because it comes into the classroom. If students of Color succeed here, people attribute it to their race and not by their actual work.

They do not consider race at all.

Again, these are just my thoughts. You can take it with a grain of salt.
