So I had a horrible registration date (today, just finished) and it turns out that two of my classes (which are required if I wanna apply to business school) are full. Completely and utterly full. I'm on the waitlist now, but if I don't get off of them then I'll have to find 1 or two filler classes as well as take the courses I wanna take over the summer.

What’s really the piece d’resistance though is that just last night, our schedule generator website said all those classes had open spaces. So over the course of about 15 hours, they were filled up. Just my luck!

I got locked out of two classes I really wanted (well, three, but I found an okay-ish replacement) but after some switching around/stalking the classes for openings I got pretty much everything I wanted.

I hate that freshmen register last. Also my registration date was at six in the morning, yay.

There were 6 spots for this one class at the minute before I could register. Due to server lag I did not get into that class. I had to go with the 10:30 class, making it my earliest class. I am not complaining, though. It’s the same professor.

e-mail the professors for those classes. If you need it for business school, tell them that and show them that you really want to be in their class and they will most likely make room for you.

I got 4 of the 5 classes I wanted. I registered pretty late and got stuck with 8AM’s every day, but what can you do… right? The 5th class, which I ** really really really ** want, I got on the waitlist for, but I’m #31 on the waitlist so I basically have no chance. And if I don’t get into it, my advisor is made me sign up for a class called “Sister Species” and it’s all about Orangutans and Chimpanzees, and i’d truly rather die than take that class.

I agree that is sucks that freshman have to register last.

I’d hate if they were allowed to register anything but last. Upperclassmen have put in far more time and work than a frosh and they should always be allowed to register before underclassmen. This is something I understood and accepted when I was a frosh myself, but I do also understand the frustration at the difficulty to obtain classes. It gets better as you move up the ranks.

I like how my school handles adding people to classes after a class has filled. Since we don’t even have true waitlists for all classes at my campus, you crash the class first day and priority is given based on major and class level. I do feel bad for the juniors, sophomores, and frosh who are unable to get a spot because I have seniority and priority over them, but I would like to graduate on time.

uwmadsoph has some good advice. Emailing professors does sometimes help especially if you have a compelling reason to be in the class. Also speaking to the department about the issue. At the very least it shows interest and can push you closer to the top of a professor’s personal waitlist. I did have a professor once, though, who felt she was not obligated to take anyone who tried to register after the quarter had started even though open spots had become available when people dropped.

I was able to get all the classes I need. I have no room for filler classes as my GEs were finished before I transferred so all my remaining classes are crucial they be related to my majors.

As a funny side, one of my classes still has 19 open spots out of 25 (registration has been open for a few weeks now). However, it’s a senior seminar for literature. Only seniors can register in it anyways.

Nah, it doesn’t really matter what freshmen take. If one of the classes fills up, do another requirement. Upperclassmen are much more likely to need specific classes, and they won’t have much time to make up anything they miss.

This happened to me too, so I gave up on backpacking until the morning…
I wanted to take a class at 4-6 PM, but ended up having to take it at 7-10 PM.
■■■. Registration is so stressful. :(

That really sucks. I got all of my classes because honors folk get to register about 2 months before everyone else. Best thing about the honors program by far.

My classes are okayish regarding professors (except for my Biology, apparently she’s pretty difficult… ugh) but they’re all way too early for me (9:30 every day, 45 minute commute = waking up at 8:00! too early). I like to stay up late, I do my best work then. None of my classes this semester were before 2:00, and it was perfect.

What I thought was crazy was that I had all the classes I wanted listed out before I could even register (registered early, too). There was a perfect calculus class at 2:00 with a professor who you learned TONS in because he was supposed to be amazing, but his class was also very easy to get an A in as long as you did the work. I signed up for classes, I kid you not, three hours after registration was up and his class was FULL. I went for waitlist… And was 31st in line! No thanks.

I saw “backpacking” and was like HEY YOU MUST BE FROM UM! 7-10pm really sucks, I usually really need a nap by then.

I had all my courses plus two alternate scheduled backpacked like three weeks in advance. Still had to scramble to get courses, but it worked out.
