I sent in my application at the end of December, transcirpts were sent early January and midyear report was sent second week in February...

uhhhhhhhhh i never sent that midyear report in....i don't remember them asking for it either
didn't the package say they only wanted like final end of the year stuff?
shrug and btw, it's def not by last names
though you shouldn't worry if you haven't gotten in (i have amazingly qualified friends who still haven't heard back either)

my status changed again. i have been re-accepted to my first choice major and the commonwealth college!

sent in my application january 14th (day before the deadline) along with my transcript. midyear grades were sent in mid-february...

DD (from NJ) got into honors program via EA and I think notice that she got $5,000 merit $ came at the same time. No financial aid for us though.

The web site says they give good $ to some National Merit Finalists. Anyone here a finalist? If so, what sort of aid did you receive?

I'm not a National Merit Finalist, but I read on the site that Finalists recieve full tuition, fees, room and board. Only 5 of these scholarships are awarded if there are more than 5 finalists accepted:

I checked my status this morning. I'm accepted.

Congratulations! It is an honor to accept you to the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Your selection to be among this year's entering class is a true testament to your intellectual and personal strengths. You can take pride in your accomplishment, for admission to the University is selective.

In recognition of your outstanding academic record, we are also inviting you to become part of our Commonwealth College honors program. This distinction places you among the top of this year's entering class and is truly a testimony to your intellectual and personal strengths.

I am a NMF, but I think unless you name a school ( in this case UMass) as your first choice you don't qualify for the scholarship.
BTW.. I applied in mid-December and just heard.

Will have to check on whether it's necessary to name a first choice now.

DD just got accepted - to the honors college, too!! Yay!! This was posted on-line.

Do people hear about merit aid later, by snail mail?

I just got in!!
Last night I checked my status online and it said my application was under review and I checked again this morning not really expecting anything and it said I was accepted.

Momfromme,
My merit aid letter came in the acceptance packet, there was no mention of it on the site...

Congrats to everyone who has gotten in!

ok, who has gotten in AND is attending? (I am)

got into the honors college with waived tuition and a merit aid scholarship, but i don't think i'll be attending... i didn't even know i had applied as a 'premedical major' - i wasn't even aware there was such a major, lol. does it mean ANYTHING? it's not a 7/8 year program, right?

yeah i don't have to pay tuition either and i got a premed major...i wasn't aware that it meant much..actually if you look at their list of majors and minors they don't even have premed, so now i'm really confused O_o

Do you mean you don't have to pay tuition AND fees?? because the tuition isn't that much it is the fees that will kill you... if you are a mass resident and get the abigail adams award, I think it gives you free tuition, and kids are always shocked when that amount is actually only about $1500 because the rest is "fees".

chacha,
How do you find out how much tuition is and how much the fees are? I don't have to pay tuition either (because my Dad works on campus), and we were just under the impression that it was one package together.
I'm curious, since this would be a big part of my decision...
Has anyone else heard about this too?

My sister works at a state college (not UMass) and gets 100% TUITION reimbursement for her son going to UMASS, she says it equals about $950, ( I am not sure if that is twice a year or once a year ) So, your Dad may get the same kind of discount, but if he works on the UMass campus he MAY get full reimbursement. Have him check with his benefits dept, they will let him know.

Here's the breakdown for fees and tuition for 2006-2007

http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=3560&profileId=2
why does it say in-state tuition is $9,595 then?

either way, if you have you're tuition waived and you're in state, it's still around 9,000 i guess

kiwieus, the link that momfromme [osteed shows the costs for one semester, you have to multiply it by two.
