I’ve been more stressed than anything. I’m so grateful I’ve been accepted to such a great school, but I have never been that far away from home before for such a large amount of time. My mom and I are like best friends, and it’s going to be hard not being with her every day. I’m going to miss the “home setting”, the dogs, my bedroom, my brothers, my mom, etc. I’ve even been having trouble sleeping, thinking about how much my life is going to change in about 4 months. I feel like a little kid going to camp. I feel like I don’t want to go and be away from home, but I know once I get there I’m not going to want to leave!

And it’s not like I can just go back home after I graduate and continue living with my mommy the rest of my life (although I guess I technically could) I need to get out there, find a career and start my own life. Sometimes, growing up just plain sucks :/

I guess I’ll be seeing you around too then (I’m going in four months too)! Where are you from? I’m from Taiwan… so it’s basically half the globe away from home =\ (If that makes you feel any better). I’m not that nervous, maybe because I grew numb of being nervous over the past few years, but it’s not bad to be all jittery about something.

Don’t worry too much, worrying won’t do anything good other than stress you out. Try to enjoy your next four month being with your family and current highschool friends as much as you can, at least that’s how I plan to spend my next few months before I move over there.

Keypper-

I am from Orange County, CA so about a 4-hour drive to Cal Poly! LOL I think I’m just being a baby. You will be much farther from your family than me. I guess its hard for everyone no matter where you’re from, huh?
You’re absolutely right, it’s best to make the most out of the last few months we have at home! :)

YOLO.
Haha, really seriously. I feel it. I’m on the same page as you both, though not as far as Taiwan! I think you and me are both in luck in the way that we are attending a school that is smack in the middle of California. I’m from the bay (HELLA) and I’m 3.5 hours away from SLO, so this means lots of visits back home! I think it should be for you too!
Also @Keypper, we DO have roughly a month of winter break!

I’m stressing and getting nervous too, but for the exact opposite reason. I am sortof moving BACK home in order to go to Cal Poly! My mom lives 30 minutes from campus and I chose to live with her while attending. I have been living on my own in the Bay Area, working full time and going to community college, for a few years and have really gotten accustomed to the independence and managing my own money… Now in a few short months I’ll be living on a tiny allowance from my loans to cover gas and food. I’m not looking forward to no longer supporting myself!
Konaluv, I went to HBHS in OC… where did you go to high school? Also, I think I saw you post somewhere that you are an Animal Science major. I am as well :)

That’s so funny, Bilbil! I’m in the same situation you will be in a few months. For a few years I was living out on my own with a job and going to community college part time. Then due to financial reasons I had to move back in with my mom while continuing community college. Well, so many years later I have finished community college and have been accepted to Cal Poly and I will once again be moving out of my mom’s house. Let me tell you, you get pretty comfortable living at home. Someone helping you pay for things, cooking, cleaning, etc etc. It’s going to be hard adjusting to “adult life” again. There’s no shame in getting some help from your parents! I say, if you can, go for it! The less debt you get yourself into, the better. I’m going to miss living with my mom, since we are like best friends, but at the same time I realize it’s time for me to grow up and start taking care of myself. Once you are done at Cal Poly and move out of your mom’s house I’m sure it will be a somewhat difficult adjustment, but trust me, it will have been well worth it.

Oh, and yes, I am an animal science major specializing in equine science, I went to Irvine High School in Irvine. Lived there for the first 20 years of my life. Currently living in north Orange County, planning on doing 2 years at Cal Poly, getting a bachelor’s, then after that: ??? who knows :)

My daughter will enroll this fall, and we went to Cal poly today.
School was closed so it was very quiet but the town was very lively.
We liked both.

Same situation here… I’m moving to slo from San Francisco and I’m quite nervous. I just hope I meet some great people to help pull me through it lol

Architectural engineering major as well

Omg yes. I’m coming from Citrus Heights (Near Sacramento)
And I’ve been Dying for an answer to this question!
Is there somewhere online where I can actually meet people who are going to go to CalPoly? You know, like actually have a conversation, talk about stuff, make friends, etc?
It would really help me feel better about moving there.

Electrical Engineering Major

Engineers galore! We should all meet up sometime lol

Kinda nervous and excited at the same time to tackle on Computer Engineering, but I’m stoked in general to start college!
And since I live only an hour and a half away from SLO, I can visit home whenever I can so it won’t even be that bad
