Anyone else going to I-Day or Parent's weekend?

Just wondering who else already has plans for I-Day and Parents weekend?
We alrady made reservations for both. Are there any plans to meet other members of this forum? Any ideas? Might be fun to meet everyone :-). We live in SC and will be driving up for both.

2010mom&dad - Congrats to your family on the appointment!! I just saw some of your posts & saw you are a Carolina Girl, best in the world, and I'm hoping to meet you next year at the All Academies Ball along with BZ. We'll have to set up a CC table for all of us. :) Great luck with the next few months. Its gonna be wild fun!

We will be attending both along with a contingent of the Torpedo Fan Club! Hopefully!

We have reservations in place for August...coming from San Diego County we'll be coming early and probably staying past sunday night in August. I too am hoping for alot of us forum parents to plan something. My bet is that we'd all want to detox together in Annapolis on Sunday night AFTER we drop our kiddos off back at the Yard. What do others think? We could pick a restaurant and drown our sorrows with a crab fest or something all together????!!!

peskemom, et.al.,
All game for celebration (I won't say commiseration!) after the last goodbye on Sunday! Who has a suggestion for the proper location/restaurant?? (Someplace w/ great crab and that can handle the electrically charged atmosphere we'll all be generating!). Is there a "traditional gathering place" for parents, etc.??

I truly hope you guys find a way to get together & share some crabs & tears! I would have loved to have gotten together with other folks from USMMA on the day we dropped our kid off. Would have lightened our load alittle cause I would have had to pull myself together a little more in the company of others. LOL The emotions of the day are overwhelming and to share it with someone would be so nice. Then by the time you get to parent's week-end, you'll meet again with old friends. Nice.

One place is Buddy's....been there and it's on the waterfront.

Listen - I am even willing to be the email repository for all interested parents to collect personal emails/phone numbers for that big day in August.

Whattada all think of that?

Cool beans (as we say here in SC, meaning that's a good thing!).
Glad to see the parents on board have as much initiative as their kids (well, speaking personally, not QUITE as much!).

Where is everyone staying? We're hoping to have our motorhome by then & stay at the MWR site, but that is still up in the air a bit. We're not stressing too much b/c we do have family in the area. (Fingers crossed on the mh so we can provide a good base of operations - everyone welcome - during games, etc. Anyone got any experience tailgating at USNA??).

We are staying at O'Callaghan's for both trips...hopefully the accomidations will be nice.

OK moms and dads
I formed a specific email account that I only will post on this forum - if you know other parents interested in staying connected so we can all meet together in August - you have my permission to share this email with others. If you send me a personal email and phone number - I will begin storing this information for us all. I will be discrete and promise not to pass this on for any other purpose than to connect us parents directly. I will give you my personal info once you contact me directly.

I'll start a kind of contact list and hopefully build on this list as more appointments come in!
Here you all go:

peskemom@yahoo.com

All you young folks on this forum who have parents planning to come to Parent's Weekend in August..please pass this on to them as well. ( I'm especially talking to YOU, Boston_usmc!!! and YOU Apan5 :-) )

Just 20 minutes ago I dropped off our daughter's Acceptance reply to USNA in the mail at the Post Office ! I guess it means she's really committed. We're already busy with dental plans, passport plans, etc.

This is really exciting!!

awwww, peskemom, putting the pressure on....still no decisions here. but if i do accept, i will ABSOLUTELY have my parents contact you! :-)
you make it sound so exciting!!

That sounds great! So glad we decided to try and meet. Thank you Peskemom for gathering the info for us all. I've been to Annapolis many times but have not been to Buddy's. Where is it exactly? I'm game to meet anywhere. We will stay thru Sunday since I've heard the plebes have town liberty til 5:30 on Sunday of Parents' weekend. Maybe if some others are coming to I-day we could meet that Wednesday night/afternoon- I don't know though, I'll be a mess. I'm already getting teary eyed :-( Thanks again Peskemom for coordinating for us.

First off, I would like to congratulate all those with appointments and all those with sons and daughters with appointments.

Second, after reading this series of postings I can't help but smile... all this talk about I-day and Parent's weekend is making it seem so close. That means my plebe year is almost over. Yeah!....

SpiderMD: according to our son's "countdown clock," it is getting closer- 148 days and closing!

There is no way I'm going to make another year on this Forum. My daughter is only a Junior, so we're class of 2011, if she makes it all the way.

Peskemom, really great of you to organize everyone. Make sure and report back on how it all goes.

Cougar_62- hang in there- there are parents on here who have been around for years- just ask Bill ;)

whattyamean Cougar_62?

My lifeblood last year was finding out about this forum - especially when we got our first DoDMERB back in August with wierd 'disqualification' notes on the paperwork which scared the living daylights out of my child. Once we actually got it all straightened out, there were not problems at all. But without forum support, I know I would have gone crazy.

Yeah, bad wording. I should have said I don't know how I'll make it through another year, but that I at least had the forum to fall back on.

Is O'callaghans a decent hotel? How far from USNA?

O'Callaghan's is a very nice hotel. In some ways, I prefer it to the Loews Hotel. It is only a block further away than the Loews and walking distance. We stayed there the night before I-Day with our Mid. We walked the next morning. It was nice to have that time together but the hotel will run a shuttle and drop you right at the gate. Very nice place to stay.
