^^^I say “ouch” for the whole female population.

My job…secretary at driving school. Answering phones. Data entry. Listening to people yell, cry, and wimper because they ran a red light on their driving test (and thus failed). Seeing a kid’s mom or dad getting incredibly po’ed at us because we failed their dear daughter/son (they only ran 3 stop signs, 2 red lights, and hit the cones while parallel parking. HOW dare the instructor fail them). Then people are shocked that if they don’t pass their road test, they have to pay the road test fee again if they want to retake it. Yes. You do have to pay 50 more dollars to risk the driving instructor’s life again.

Well, it’s not a job that I positively loathe. But I do positively loathe many of the ridiculously dumb people I encounter

who else is still on the hunt for a job? Its seems like every single job in my area, even minimum wage jobs, are all taken and really hard to get…

Milkmagn, I’m hunting for a job. I’ve never had a job before, let alone looked for one…I didn’t think it was going to be this difficult to find a summer job! I feel like I’m applying for colleges again, haha. Oh dear.

Going to fill out another application now…yippee…

I just need A job, doesn’t matter which one… Walmart sounds good though

I think it would have been easier ppl applied to jobs like couple months ago, so there would be more openings. Thats what I did, and I was promised a job until I found out 12 hours before I was supposed to start that the manager had overhired and I couldn’t work. ****

I had one at a real estate office. Everything was going okay until one of the co-owners decided to be a regular in the office. He’s so freaking annoying!

Needless to say, I quit and he keeps calling me. I don’t think he understands that I do not want to work there.

I’m a server/waitress/whatever you want to call it.. Yes, some people say it is demoralizing, but it’s also extremely humbling.

I’ve been a server for the past few months, and it isn’t as bad as I originally thought. Tips are damn amazing (on a DECENT night, $100+ in tips makes all the BS so worth it). Anyway, I find it that I’m much nicer to waiters when I go out to eat because I know what sort of crap they go through in one night.

I’m looking to change restaurants (the one in which I work is pretty damn corrupt), but I’ll still be working as a server and/or hostess.

I dunno, I’ve been told to avoid the food service in general, so I’m a little uncertain to apply to restaurants and what not. I know I would never want to work at McDonalds, Red Robin or Coldstone.

At a lot of the places I’ve tried applying to, they said they do not hire just for the summer only… (like restaurants, retail, etc)… If I am honest and tell them that I can’t work in the fall (because I’ll be in college), I probably won’t get a job. Should I just lie and tell them that I can work in the fall or tell them I’m undecided as to what to do in the fall? (and quit the job before school starts)

right Milkmagn, i had that same dilemma last summer when I was looking for a summer job. no one will hire you if they know you’re going to leave in two months. it’s rough. look for tmeporary employment opportunities on caqigslist. they’re never good (usually data entry) but i made pretty good money doing that last summer

Yeah look for temp. employment. I searched for summer employment work for students in my area on google and found a bunch of stuff. Applied to 6 jobs this morning.

AHHHHHHHH!
Today I drove around town like crazy!
I applied to 6 more today and they said they are not hiring.
On the brightside, 3 took my resume and told me they will give me a call soon.

try applying to a local college bookstore. i work at a college bookstore in my hometown whenever i come home for the summer. all i know is that when school starts, it gets extremely chaotic. i know they have their own university students, but they usually stay for a couple of hours since they have classes. my school starts way later than the school here at home.

they need people to work before & a little after the semester starts and i need a summer job…so, that works out fine.

I graduated early from hs so I could work fulltime.
Two weeks after I graduate(Feb. 2), JC Penney’s tells me their computer system kicked me out, so I won’t be scheduled anymore(worked there for 7 months).
I applied to 40 places, and finally got hired in June.
I love my new job(Earthbound Trading). I also ref soccer games adn tournaments, and I earned $750 during 3 weekend tournaments, and got $1,000 to deliver guidebooks, so this summer has gone well.

I have a job and an internship this summer, and they are actually related.

Job: Sports photography for a giant sports complex in Minnesota. I just take action photos of soccer/football/hockey whatever the big tournament is that weekend. I don’t have to edit and with outdoor sports, they have a golf cart to provide water and collect memory cards. My favorite, hockey, is actually a summer sport here!

My internship is at a daily newspaper in Minnesota. Doing photographer assignments twice a week.

The downside is that I supply my own equipment for both and it weighs at least ten pounds to lug around - though I wouldn’t want the paper’s equipment anyway.
