So here I am sitting on the computer at 6 in the morning thinking...

It's really odd--I am not a very introverted person. In school I'm pretty known in my grade, talk a lot, have done every school play since freshman year, and get along pretty well.

Yet I don't really hang out with people OUTSIDE of school...Like I have no real friends. I never go out on the weekends (I don't stay in and study either). I should be doing SOMETHING productive...but no, weekends are just me sitting on the computer and sleeping mostly.

I think --MAYBE-- part of the problem is the school I go to. I go to a 95% black school (I'm white) and it's very uncompetitive--meaning not a lot of people are "smart." Obviously I'm not racist or anything but there's less people to identify with...a slight "culture barrier" Does this make sense?? I have a lot of "friends" of all kinds...but I don't really talk to them out of school.

When it comes down to it, I'm not "normal." I don't feel a void or anything by not going out w/ friends. I don't have a social "need" yet I'm a social person. It's all just weird and confusing. I guess I just expect things to happen rather than going after them (friends wise). Well that's how it's always been though...people come up to me and know ME, not the other way around. I think I'm the most unpopular popular person in my school.

I don't think the whole race thing is an issue. It just seems that way
. I used to have a problem similar to yours. All you have to do is look for a couple of people at school who you feel comfortable around, and just ask them if they wanna hang out. It's that simple. You just need to call someone and go out on Saturdays or whatever, try to be as social out of school as you say you are inside it.

Well your only in HS, people go diverse directions and career goals.
Don't expect to abruptly to have best friends and a social life. Try to make friends, introduce yourself, i used to have the same mentality as you.
Don't worry.

Lol! I love it when people pretend race isn't a problem in today's society, and even more in the said situation!

Of course it's a race thing. And yes, I'd think that's why you're having problems having a bunch of friends. I'm sure that you can pick out some that won't have any problems hanging out with a white boy, but if the "cultural" thing is going to get in the way, then it's not your fault. As long as you make an honest attempt at being friends with them, that's the most you can do.

Same here (without the play stuff). I mean exactly the same. Though I can be quite extroverted in school, I simply never leave my home outside of school. I don't really see it as a problem, but nonetheless, it is kind of weird. I suspect it'll be resolved by college.

Yes. I go to a 95 percent Black school. I'm Black, and I still only hang out with only one of my friends on the weekend who happens to be white. Maybe you should make more of an effort to find out for their weekend plans and include yourself. Or you could throw a Party and use that as an excuse to hang out.

Armando - It's not that big of an issue. Sure, he's bound to feel awkward, left out, or maybe even a little shy, but that shouldn't be the reason for his problem.

^Yeah, people seem to think I hibernate when I'm not in school. Or study. Wrong on both counts.

Ahahahaha, people actually like to guess what I do when I'm not in school. One of my friends commented that I just disappear after 3:00 PM, and that no one actually knows what I do after that time. He's absolutely right.

Indeed. People tend think I just dissolve into a wisp of darkness and fly off with the wind after I get off the bus.

They usually say "Oh, you probably study for 11 hours a day in your room, locked up. You just pretend to be apathetic at school." I disagree, and they reply "Then what do you do?! I never see you outside!" I leave them to their own thoughts after this, and thus their conclusion is usually the wisp theory. :D

alot of people think I don't have a life, which is, to some extent, correct, but I do have friends and I do go out occasionally, lol. So it's pretty infuriating when someone asks me: don't you have friends? or, don't you ever go out? when I'm in the middle of like ten of my friends at school. :) :D
