Anyone Else Have This Problem?

I know it's the opposite of what the stereotypical hs-er complains about, but I feel as though my parents are a bit too hands-off when it comes to academics and the whole college search process. I mean, don't get my wrong, I love the fact that I never get yelled at for my grades- that it's my and only my responsibility to work hard in school. But when it comes to the college search process, I really want my parents advice and guidance, and I feel as though they don't want to help me. I asked my parents about visiting a couple colleges over october break during the summer, and my parents said yes, and now they've changed their minds. I recently told them that most of my classmates at school have started the college visits, and that I would like to start too. They told me to plan the trips myself. However, I'll never get permission to travel alone, and I need to convince my dad to take off days to drive me places. I don't want to plan the trips myself. I want my parents to be involved like other parents are, but whenever I ask they tell me that they're training me to be more independant.

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.

well maybe you should talk to your parents and tell them whats going on. tell them pretty much everything you wrote there. and see if that works. tell them them you want to be independant but you cant if they wont help you a little to get to the places you want to get.

My parents are kind of the same way. They expect that I have all A's and they're very adamant on my studying, but when it comes to college they're very hands off. They want to do whatever is cheapest, for good reason. But my ideas about going East to an Ivy are a far shot given their desire for me to go to the community college.
