I know it's the opposite of what the stereotypical hs-er complains about, but I feel as though my parents are a bit too hands-off when it comes to academics and the whole college search process. I mean, don't get my wrong, I love the fact that I never get yelled at for my grades- that it's my and only my responsibility to work hard in school. But when it comes to the college search process, I really want my parents advice and guidance, and I feel as though they don't want to help me. I asked my parents about visiting a couple colleges over october break during the summer, and my parents said yes, and now they've changed their minds. I recently told them that most of my classmates at school have started the college visits, and that I would like to start too. They told me to plan the trips myself. However, I'll never get permission to travel alone, and I need to convince my dad to take off days to drive me places. I don't want to plan the trips myself. I want my parents to be involved like other parents are, but whenever I ask they tell me that they're training me to be more independant.

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.
