My daughter's high school in the midst of unified auditions for the years' shows....anyone else? what's on your high school's season this year and what roles are you/is your child trying to land?

interested in hearing how/when your high school holds auditions or what interesting methods are used.

My D has been working all summer with her Theatre class writing their own pieces for a show this fall. She has two pieces being performed and will be acting in 3 others. School musical just announced and she will be auditioning for Grease in about a month. I thought Junior year was brutal…but I think this semester will be the toughest of all for our theater children.

Congratulations, Josh703! I love Into the Woods. My daughter was Wicked Stepmother 2 years ago the Baker is a great role.

bisouu, writing their own pieces is interesting…is it a performing arts school? My daughter attends a performing arts school and will be directing her own full-scale production this year. She is so excited. She also was just cast in Grease as Principal Lynch. She is used to playing crazies and eccentrics, so this is kind of up her street. They are knee-deep in talent and every show is casting he**. But she is getting a good education for the reality of the business…two or three more shows from which to await lists. argh.

Not a performing arts high school but a very well respected public. This is their fourth year of having the fall production be student written/directed. She was featured in the County’s newspaper with an article she wrote about the process. My D is not a singer at all and has just started taking voice lessons. That was her one fear/goal before leaving high school was to sing on stage in the school musical. She is auditioning for Rizzo. My D lives and breathes musical theater and can quote verbatim almost every musical out there! Unfortunately she has a long long long way to go to even begin to put her foot into the singing pool. :)

At my school we had our entire season announced at the end of the school year but auditions aren’t until school starts 1 week or so before rehearsals start. We had one acception this year though with 1 show having auditions at the end if the previous year like Josh703’s school did. That show was the school version of Avenue Q which we have to cut down to take to a One-Act festival. Our teacher wanted them memorized over the summer so they could practice with puppets as soon as possible.

For our other shows we are doing a Fall One Act Festival at the school including Ave Q (different than the one mentioned before), W;t, and a few more student directed shows. Then Peter & Wendy for the Winter play and Spamalot as the Spring Musical.

FutureMillie6, I believe we live in the same area. I’m at Woodson. I love your director, he and I have worked together a bunch of times with Improv and other theatre shenanigans. I’ll have to come see your shows! And thank you all on the congratulations, I’m really excited to do the show!

The auditions for West Side Story at my daughter’s high school were held in the spring. My daughter will be playing Maria! She has been in drama 4 years and has never had the lead, so she is very excited.

She is also president of the drama club and is writing the One Act play. She is in charge of filming the senior video. She is in charge (along with my H) of the set design for West Side Story. She also works weekends, and is asking if she can be a counselor for the fall 6th grade science camp!

I guess her going 7 days a week is good practice for becoming an actor, because that is what she has decided to do. College applications are just around the corner.

My D was just cast as Emily Webb in Our Town. She’s already played the role in community theatre so not too many lines to learn! Lucky, with this busy year upon us. :-)

Congrats to all of our senior actors! I’m glad folks didn’t forego their senior shows because of the daunting college app/audition season. It is senior year! Have fun!
