It's kind of scary........I mean my score is in the 99th percentile...shouldnt I be recieveing mail already?

settle down now...

Haha... In 2 months you'll be saying it's scary how much mail you are getting.

did yall check the box?

Too Much Mail Mann

The only mail we have received thus far (for my tenth grade son) is very few mailings from Simon's Rock and from a few colleges whose regional information sessions my son has attended. I think I recall reading that NACAC has a rule discouraging recruiting mailings before the fall of sophomore year, and I think most admission offices right now are especially busy with handling applications, not recruiting so much. I hear from other parents that a flood of mail can be expected after January, which according to other CC threads is the time when colleges start receiving email lists with names of PSAT-scorers in various categories.

That's bad news that it will pick up, tokenadult, as we already are receiving lots of information. Unfortunately, it's from the same colleges over and over. You'd think it'd be like dating -- ask a couple of times, and if the response continues to be a cold shoulder, then move on.

One school apparently is a desperate suitor, now using the line "We only have a few more of these books left!" Hmmmm, somehow I doubt it.

If you're a Junior, and you signed up for the Student Search Service on the PSAT/SAT, you're going to get a ton of college mail in the spring.

Yeah, too much mail from one college makes the college look hard-up.

"Yeah, too much mail from one college makes the college look hard-up."

Exactly. Play a little hard to get.

haha but who DOESN'T like getting good-ole-fashioned mail (im not talking spam clogging your email btw)?

Trust me, I didn't get much mail until January and my score was in 99th percentile. After awhile though, you won't like it...as someone said before...it will be scary how much mail you're getting. And it won't stop when you're a senior too! From January to now I have gotten an average of 3 articles of college mail a day, no joke.

I got 99th percentile, and I got my first sign from a college today, in fact. A Christmas card, to be exact.

simon's rock stays sending me stuff. and im not 99th at all, more like 92nd. and i get the same emails from four colleges every third day or so... its ridiculous

I haven't started getting mail yet, but I'm sure I will. I got a ton last year.

By the way, I didn't think colleges actually saw your percentile.

The mailing lists from the October, 2007 PSAT won't be available to colleges/universities until January 22nd (or thereabouts), according to the College Board website.

On a humorous note, I received something from the National Guard today about starting college or a career. It's funny because I'm a parent and too old to enlist as a first timer in the Guard.

Heh...parents that I know get that stuff all of the time. And the letters are funny too.

"There is NO way you can pay for college! We'll give you $50,000 for college if you give up 5 years of your life...AND, for talking to a recruiter you'll get... a movie ticket!"

I respect the men and women in our armed forces, but... when I got that letter today, I couldn't help but laugh. :D

haha.
All I have gotten is Emory and Ga Tech stuff, but those are regional Universities that I really do not want to go to anyways. =/ But it's not related to the PSAT at all. Maybe from last years..but my scores last year sucked bad.
Do certain colleges send you stuff based on your score?

I know that colleges don't get your exact score. The SSS page on the College Board website says, however, that score ranges are sent:

Colleges, universities, and scholarship programs sponsored by governmental and nonprofit organizations that use Student Search Service receive your name and address if you have, for example, a specific grade average, score range, intended major, or if you live in a particular state or zip code.

If you juniors haven't started receiving mail yet, I wouldn't worry. I started getting mail in Jan 07 after taking the PSAT in October 06. I received a bunch of emails on the 29th, and that's when the flood started.
