Anyone else not get enough money?

I didn't.
What comes next for any of you, then?

Appeals?
Loans?
Private Scholarships?
Another School? :/

I’m not sure exactly what is “enough,” but I got a lot more than one of my in-state schools. What amount would be aid for full coverage?

all of the above, but i think “appeal” will be the least successful…Did you get something close to what the online FAFSA “tool” suggested? what was your EFC and when added with the FA ,how close to the final costs from 'Nova?

@TGrace

I have read on other college threads about people successfully appealing when the offered FA was insufficient or fell short of what the family could reasonably manage. I have also heard Adcom representatives advising Acceptees to call financial aid office in order to explain the situation and see if there is a remedy.

You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. If you don’t try, you will never know. Good luck!

My dad lost his job last year, but made enough before that happened to drive our EFC too high for the government to give anything. So based on the FAFSA and PROFILE, we didn’t get anything… but that’s just need based, is Nova one of the schools who does merit based later? I know of many schools that handle it like this.

They gave me a loan and their “payment plan”, but the loan totals $5500 a year and the payment plan the rest. While my EFC was about 27000, my family can only contribute about 12000. So there’s a HUGE gap that I do not want to have to fill with loans.

I think appeal is what I’m going to try first.
Thanks for your help.

i’m international. applied for FA but they din’t give me any aid…

hardly a cent

They expect me to pay my family contribution twice, once in the fall and once in the spring. That seems a bit unreasonable, right?

Nothing yet, it says I’m still missing somethings. I’m praying the aid is good… my dad was practically forced into retirement this year. My mom is a teacher here in Jersey, where the governor is wreaking havoc on public schools… ugh

I’m so glad I’m not alone in this.
Words can’t even describe how much I loved the school when I visited… I had the moment everyone talks about where their right choice suddenly becomes apparent.

What are you guys going to try?

TGrace:

Keep us posted. I really believe you have a chance to improve your situation if you lay it all out for the FA counselors. This economy is brutal and I’m sure they understand that…if they see how much you love Villanova and are committed to attending, they may reach deeper into their resources. Also, once applicants start accepting/declining admission, the FA people will get a more accurate picture of their incoming class. There may be Acceptees with aid who decline admission, thus freeing up more money.

Thanks so much, Kelly.
