Anyone else rejecting a "higher ranked" college?

Accepted at UCSD, UCSB, UCD, and UCI
Rejected from UCLA

I'll most likely be going to UCI next Fall. Anyone else turning down admission from a more prestigious university? I have to explain my reasoning to everyone I tell. Is it really that big of a deal?

EDIT: This thread was inspired by Oliver_Twist :D

Choosing between SD or LA. 50-50 as of now.

I am going to Davis instead of Berkeley and everyone I know is like “WHAT?”

I may go to Davis instead of Berkeley because I love the environment at Davis…but who am I fooling…I"m going to freakin CAL :D

Headed to UCD over UCSD!

Might go to UCD over UCB as well.

Will prolly go to U of Oregon over the Honors program at UCSB…scholarships kinda made up my mind…kinda…

nicolles - Nooooo you want cali!!

Rejecting to UCLA for UCSD because of location.

going to UCI over UCSB even though SB supposedly is a little bit better for my major.

I live within running(well to my highschool’s XC team) distance of UCI

I’m choosing UCLA over Berkeley. A few people have asked me why as if it should be a no brainer to choose CAL over LA. General prestige is overrated. There are just so many reasons someone would have to go to a generally less well regarded school instead of a more prestigious one, but when you’re talking about top tier schools (and I mean in general, not just top tier UCs) it’s not even like it really matters all that much. Basically wherever you go you’ll be getting a top notch education that most people wouldn’t even dream of. Such a big part of college is what you make of it, and there’s only so much that two different campuses can do in terms of dictating your experience and opportunities

Some people just weren’t made for the demands a more prestigious college places on its students.

get accepted into ucla,ucb,ucsd,ucsb
probably get into ucla biz-econ
btw…i am wondering if i would be considered as rejecting a " higher ranked" UCB against ucla

going to UCLA and not UCB. go bruins!

Even though UCB is seen as a higher ranked university than UCLA, I think the OP meant a bigger difference between the universities.

It really depends more on the program than the university. For example, going to UCSD for biochemistry instead of UCB would hardly be considered strange.

UCI over UCLA and UCB

^^i am considering the same thing as well. At this moment, I am in for UCB, LA and Irvine, but I get Regent at UCI plus CHP and guaranteed undergrad. research which makes it very tempting to choose it over LA. Honestly, I never considered moving up north so…

I’m torn pretty much between LA and UCI. O well, a few more weeks of pros/cons I guess

^^
Research is plenty at UCI. There should be no problem in getting into research at UCI if you are looking into getting into it. The biggest benefit from CHP is the priority registration. You get first choice of classes. You are never screwed with bad times and bad professors. I would say that is a big plus and will make your stay here pleasant.

Texas over illinois urbana
