I lol at people who act as if choosing UCLA over Berkeley is some major sacrifice. While it is true that Berkeley often has the more prestigious program, this clearly is not what the OP was referring to when he asked: “Anyone else rejecting a “higher ranked” college?”

That said, I am definitely leaning on accepting UCD over UCB.

@Hadrian awesome choice… I came to the same conclusions.

I got rejected from Berkeley and am choosing to go to UCSC over UCLA.

I got into Berkeley, IRvine, Davis and Santa Barbara …
Rejected from UCSD and LA …

I really want to go to UCSD eventhough i was admitted to Cal … I Am going to appeal, if it doesnt work, i will choose Santa Barbara over Cal

jane, I’m pretty sure UCLA is the number two public school in the nation. So, no worries, right?

janethedoe, I wouldn’t worry about a US Newsweek rank so much. Instead, if I were you I’d consider 1. which of your schools’ has the strongest anthropology departments for your intended future career path(s) and then 2. after visiting each and maybe interacting with some professors on campus, decide which school’s program was the most appealing to you.

Just a suggestion. Also there are websites as you know which may detail much about the professors and their research, past and current anthropology work, interests, etc.
