Anyone else send a video audition?

I uploaded/emailed my MT Ithaca video audition a week and a half ago and just wondered if anyone else on here was submitting a video. I don’t expect to get an answer until late March or April…would I be right in thinking this?

steamedartichoke, one of my D’s friends was unable to get an audition slot and is sending in a video, but she hasn’t done it yet, I don’t think. But, if you look at the Ithaca threads from last year, it seems that sometimes you are able to figure out your acceptance/rejection status from your myithaca account before you get the actual decision in the mail. Of course, it is very possible that they have changed the myithaca system and those indicators will not hold true this year, but it looks like they were pretty accurate last year. Oh, and when we were there this weekend, they said they would try to get us an answer within 3 weeks of our audition, but some of the boys said that they heard within 10 days of auditioning last year and several years ago. Best of luck to you! It is a fabulous program…and the campus/facilities are to die for!

Thanks so much for the information, monkey13! I logged onto my MyIthaca page and it still said I am missing my audition, so it’ll probably take a few more weeks at least for that to be updated. In the meantime, I will have to be patient  good luck to your daughter’s friend!

Hey, monkey13, I’m interested in what you’re reporting…my son auditioned on December 1st, which was the ED audition date but was also open to kids applying regular decision. They said they would notify in March for regular decision. His “myIthaca” account still says that the audition is “missing,” by the way! Did they say they were going to notify kids from the most recent audition in just a few weeks? I’m wondering what’s up…

Times3, I can’t comment on this current year, but will tell you that in past years, including my own D’s year, Ithaca accepted and rejected applicants throughout the audition season, but also didn’t reply to many applicants and sort of had them on hold with no notification until the end of the audition season (thus driving some crazy…I prefer schools that tell everyone at ONE time, but that’s just me). In my D’s year (and I have observed this in subsequent years too), she auditioned around this time in January and was admitted about three weeks later. But some didn’t get their results until the end of the admissions season. I can’t tell you if this is still true in this year’s cycle or not, but has been in the years that I have been observing the process at Ithaca for MT.

Times3, we got several answers to the question of “when will we hear?” The MT students who ushered my D to her audition from the theater where we were all sitting told her they all heard 3 weeks after their audition last year. Two of the boys who were MT students and talking to us in the theater told us they auditioned on our exact day last year and 2 years ago, respectively (i.e., the first audition day after the ED decision day in December, which you attended), and they both heard 10 days after their audition (although they did say that they are boys, and it may be different for them). The department head said they would try to get things out in mid-February, but he could not promise. Mid-February is about 3 weeks, so this jibes with what the girls told us.

I suspect, but do not know for sure, that the RD kids who auditioned at the ED day will be thrown into the pool with our kids who auditioned this past weekend. But, as soozievt said, I do remember last year kids who heard absolutely nothing until the 3rd week in March. So, I have a feeling that Ithaca will make decisions on people they are absolutely sure about from this round of auditions in about 3 weeks, and the rest will have to hang on until all the auditions have been completed. It’s kind of a mixture of rolling admissions and do-it-all-at-once-at-the-end.

BTW, not sure why there is no discussion on this, but Lee Byron does not seem to be the Chair of the Dept anymore. We were introduced to the Acting Chair, Greg Bostwick, who was very nice and funny and informative. We were told that he is only Acting (“Acting” as in interim…not acting as in…acting) Chair, and he will likely be replaced. Not sure who will head up the whole department, and I have no idea how this may (or may not) affect the school. But my D absolutely adores everything about Ithaca, and I don’t think it makes any difference to her. Anyone have any clue…?

Thanks, Soozie and monkey–that does seem to coincide with what I’ve observed, and my sense was that because of the shift in department chair, things might work differently this year. I noticed some, er, controversy on CC over Ithaca’s notification practices last year. At the December audition date, Bostwick said that if they knew for SURE that they REALLY wanted you–or really did NOT want you–they would notify you before Christmas even if you weren’t applying ED, but otherwise most people would go into the regular pool and be notified by the admissions office in early March.

The mystery of why my son’s account still says “audition missing” remains unsolved, so he’s going to e-mail. If we learn anything helpful, I’ll let you know! Thanks, all!

My guess is that “audition missing” is just a matter of them not updating the website frequently enough, and has no significance. But it can’t hurt to call and ask about that.
