Has anyone else been getting a lot of waitlists this year? So far, I've been waitlisted at Bryn Mawr (which I considered a low target), Boston College, Wellesley, and now Scripps. I only applied to 11 schools. I'm not complaining though- I got an awesome scholarship at Mount Holyoke, one of my top choices, and am pretty sure I'll be attending next year.

However, I was expecting to at least get into Bryn Mawr and BC. I showed A LOT of interest and visited each, and have pretty good stats and EC's. Are colleges using the wait list option a lot more this year?

The fact that you got waitlisted means you are qualified. It is a numbers game. With kids applying to 15-20 schools and applications up at most great schools alot of qualified applicants get waitlisted. To answer your question: Yes. More colleges are using the waitlist option. They need to fill their class. If they fall a few hundred short the have a list of kids who wrote them begging to come off the waitlist & get accepted. They contact them & fill the class.

I was surprised by my waitlist at Reed, but I was also waitlisted at Bowdoin and Pomona. It’s strange to think I’ve gotten 3. I do think that waitlisting has increased this year.

Yeah, three waitlists so far: Wellesley, Mt. Holyoke, and Smith. They were my top choices and I thought that I was a pretty good match stats wise for Mt. Holyoke and maybe Smith. I got accepted into Simmons and an in-state public, but I’m still waiting for Barnard’s notification.

Same here - waitlisted at UChicago, Haverford, and Smith (which I considered a low match)…I don’t care that much about Haverford (I got into Bryn Mawr so I have similar options), Smith I was surprised about, and UChicago, well, I’m wishing and hoping and blowing out dandelions tufts in the hopes that I’ll get off their waitlist…

I was waitlisted to University of Chicago, Boston College, and Lehigh. Rejected to two other schools and accepted to two other schools. Still waiting on Cornell. Does anyone know how many people usually get off the waitlist or how they decide? Ughh

I was waitlisted at Mount Holyoke and Bates, rejected at 9 other places. Joy!
I thought Holyoke was a match, but I guess no place is as an international applicant.
I took the wl spot, but didn’t take the Bates one, as they said in the letter that there’s no financial aid available. Although , I’m not sure if MHC has aid either…

yep waitlisted at Bentley, Syracuse and Richmond. I’m only going to accept the wait list for richmond though.

some schools like richmond take into account how much you want to go to the school and if it’s a top choice for you or not.

it would also help to send 3rd quarter grades.

i’m sending in my 3Quarter grades as well as a letter explaining my richmond is my top choice and why i want to go there, and another recommendation letter.

It just that so many kids are applying to so many colleges.

I got into CMU and NYU Stern, but waitlisted by Johns Hopkins and Tufts. Waitlists are so annoying. It seems like the only solution would be for there to be more colleges that top students apply too.

Or for the existing ones to build new dorms and accept more students!

It’s incredible how many people I know that applied to over 15 schools, and still don’t have that many options. Hopefully college admissions don’t continue to get harder in the next few years!
